Happy Valley horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (22:15) Sai Kung C4 Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Flying Godspell – Bet Now
Flying Godspell has won four of his 39 career starts, including last time out at Happy Valley. The 1.3-length win should hold him in good stead for this race.
Former Australian rider Matthew Poon takes 1kg off his back and he only needs some luck from barrier 10 to figure in the finish.
Punters will get each-way odds.
Race 2. (22:45) Tai Po C4 Handicap (1650m)
#8 – Vital Spring – Bet Now
Vital Spring posted a quality win at Sha Tin to kick off this season and he could get back to winning form.
The Lui-trained seven-year-old hasn’t been far behind some nice types that win and he could take advantage of only a moderate field here.
Dropping to 54.5kg helps his cause and we think the New Zealand-bred runner should be able to go close at each-way odds.
Race 3. (23:15) Sai Kung C4 Handicap (1200m)
#5 – Compassion Star – Bet Now
Manfred Man lines up the last-start winner which could go back-to-back in style.
The six-year-old scored by 2.5 lengths last start and he looks a good chance to repeat that effort with Zac Purton riding.
The last time Purton rode Compassion Star was on September 25, where he posted a win carrying 60kg.
That form stacks up well.
Race 4. (23:45) Tsuen Wan C4 Handicap (1800m)
#4 – California Legend – Bet Now
Searching for consecutive wins is California Legend, which won by a half-length at Happy Valley last month.
The five-year-old son of Camelot put away a similar field with ease and there has been good money placed on him to do it again.
It was a good form turnaround for the gelding and he should be respected.
Race 5. (00:15) Fanling C3 Handicap (1000m)
#10 – Quadruple Double – Bet Now
The David Hall-trained four-year-old rarely runs a bad race and was good enough to win consecutive races this season.
Those came at Sha Tin but he showed plenty of promise when running third on this track last month.
He’s going to get every chance from barrier five and it’s another good ride for apprentice Matthew Poon.
Race 6. (00:45) Kwai Chung C3 Handicap (1650m)
#9 – Zhan Jiang Rocks – Bet Now
The son of Big Bad Bob is looking to bounce back after running sixth at Happy Valley last start, but he has the ability to do so.
He runs well on this track, which includes nine starts for a win and four minor placings. That’s a solid record and he could improve on it.
Carrying 53kg brings him right into contention and value odds are available.
Race 7. (01:15) Kwai Chung C3 Handicap (1650m)
#13 – Racing Luck – Bet Now
Racing Luck might need luck from barrier 13 but he could cause an upset in this race.
The six-year-old by Street Cry wasn’t all that far away when fifth at Happy Valley last start. A repeat effort would take him close and this isn’t a strong field.
He’s a six-time winner and that commands respect in this grade.
Race 8. (01:50) Fo Tan C3 Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Shouson – Bet Now
Shouson is a John Moore-trained gelding that has rattled off consecutive wins on this track.
The son of Star Witness paid $1.90 when winning by a length last start and punters should get better odds this time around.
Carrying only 53.5kg is ideal for this and although Zac Purton isn’t riding this time, he’ll get a good ride from Grant Van Niekerk.
