Happy Valley horse racing tips
Race 1. (21:45) Yue Man C5 Handicap (2200m)
#9 – Wicker – Bet Now
Wicker is only a one-win runner from 14 starts, but he’s good enough to win at this level.
The five-year-old scored that maiden win two starts back at Sha Tin and he wasn’t beaten far when fourth last time out.
He’s going to get a good run from barrier two and having Karis Teetan in the saddle will help his chances.
Race 2. (22:15) Shing Yip C4 Handicap (1200m)
#9 – Focus – Bet Now
Punters should focus on Focus, which scored an impressive win in December and is capable of getting back to winning form.
The four-year-old by Per Incanto won by 1.5 lengths on this track before running two lengths behind the winner last start.
This isn’t a very deep field and he only needs some luck to be right in the finish.
Race 3. (22:45) Shing Yip C4 Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Confucius Day – Bet Now
A win isn’t far away for this five-year-old, which hasn’t been able to win for a long time now. He has been knocking on the door with two placings from his last three starts.
He’s a son of Ocean Park that gets a valuable 4.5kg off his back from Alfred Chan, and that’s going to see him run close.
Punters should be getting each-way odds.
Race 4. (23:15) Wai Yip C4 Handicap (1650m)
#2 – Flash Famous – Bet Now
Flash Famous looked good winning his first two starts this season, before rising in class and struggling a touch.
The Frankie Lor-trained gelding is a five-time winner from 33 starts, and he has the ability to continue rising through the grades.
Having Joao Moreira in the saddle is a big help and it’s going to drive the odds down.
Race 5. (23:45) Mut Wah C4 Handicap (1000m)
#8 – Smart of Youth – Bet Now
Smart of Youth has had two runs in Hong Kong for an eighth and a fourth. It was an improved effort at Sha Tin last start and it could continue to improve.
He’s an Australian-bred son of Niagara that has attracted the attention of Moreira, so he’s clearly talented at home.
This isn’t a very strong field and he could take advantage. It could pay to watch for any late betting moves with this runner.
Race 6. (00:15) Wai Yip C4 Handicap (1650m)
#7 – Righteous Mate – Bet Now
Tony Millard lines up the six-year-old, which scored by 2.3 lengths at Happy Valley in October and could return to that form.
The son of Savabeel is a nicely-bred Kiwi runner that owns three wins from 33 starts, but should have won more than that.
He’s not the most consistent type running around. However, he should run at value odds and he’ll give punters a good sight.
Race 7. (00:45) Hung To C3 Handicap (1650m)
#8 – Zhan Jiang Rocks – Bet Now
The five-year-old gets into this race with only 53kg on his back, and that makes him very tough to beat.
He’s coming off a second placing on this track and prior to that, he scored a one-length win over a capable field.
He hasn’t run worse than third in all four starts this season, which should make him tough to beat at the weights.
It’s another good ride for Karis Teetan.
Race 8. (01:15) Hoi Yuen C3 Handicap (1200m)
#11 – This Is Class – Bet Now
The son of So You Think is coming off an impressive 3.5-length win on this track, and he looks good enough to kick on with it.
He’s a two-win gelding that went to another level last start and that should give him the confidence he needs.
Dropping in weight to 54.5kg is ideal and he should go well again.
Race 9. (01:50) Hoi Yuen C3 Handicap (1200m)
#3 – Quadruple Double – Bet Now
David Hall lines up the son of Zoustar, that owns three wins and seven placings from 15 starts.
He has amassed a good career record to date, and he has already won three times this season. That includes a 2.3-length win last December.
Getting the inside draw should see him land on the speed and show a good kick.
