Happy Valley horse racing tips

Race 1. (20:45) Middle Gap C4 Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Island Shine – Bet @ Sportsbet

Island Shine comes off a second placing at Happy Valley and he’s capable of going one better this time around.

The five-year-old gelding owns one win and five placings on the track, so he loves racing here and punters should get value each-way odds.

Race 2. (21:15) Stubbs C5 Handicap (1200m)

#11 – Shanghai Power – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old gelding scored a second placing at Happy Valley last start and he could score an overdue win.

He had been struggling to find his best form, but carrying 53kg is ideal and he gets the services of Karis Teetan in the saddle.

It’s not an easy field, so expect nice odds.

Race 3. (21:45) Magazine Gap C4 Handicap (1000m)

#7 – Travel Datuk – Bet @ Sportsbet

Travel Datuk isn’t lacking experience and he was too good for them three starts back at Happy Valley. The half-length win was followed up with two solid performances and he can’t be ruled out.

He owns 16 placings at Happy Valley and he scored five consecutive placings earlier this campaign, so he’s in form.

1kg comes off his back and that helps.

Race 4. (22:15) Bowen C2 Handicap (1650m)

#2 – The Rock – Bet @ Sportsbet

Caspar Fownes lines up the five-year-old gelding that owns four wins and 10 placings from just 17 starts, so he rarely runs a bad race.

The son of Dutch Art scored by two lengths last time out and we don’t think he’ll be paying $12 to score again this season.

Barrier three is ideal and Chad Schofield takes the ride.

Race 5. (22:45) Middle Gap C4 Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Telecom Rocket – Bet @ Sportsbet

Telecom Rocket scored a 1.3-length victory three back and his subsequent efforts have been solid placings.

The six-year-old son of Tavistock comes off consecutive placings at Happy Valley and getting a 1kg claimer in the saddle helps.

Expect a solid run from barrier three.

Race 6. (23:15) Robinson C4 Handicap (1650m)

#2 – Fa Fa – Bet @ Sportsbet

Fa Fa didn’t make a good start to his career, but he has turned it around nicely. He scored a one-length win at Happy Valley two back before running second last start.

The Frankie Lor-trained three-year-old is a Kiwi-bred runner that looks likely to rise through the grades.

Punters should get value odds on race night.

Race 7. (23:45) Caine C3 Handicap (1200m)

#8 – Telecom Smart – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Tsui-trained four-year-old was too good for them last start when scoring by 1.3 lengths. He capped off three consecutive second placings with the victory, so he’s capable of kicking on with it.

Barrier six should give him a nice drag into the race and carrying only 54.5kg is ideal, so there are no excuses on Wednesday.

Look for a market push.

Race 8. (00:15) Kennedy C3 Handicap (1650m)

#8 – Exceptional Nice – Bet @ Sportsbet

Exceptional Nice comes off back-to-back second placings and the son of Tavistock looks set to score a victory.

The So-trained five-year-old owns four placings from seven starts at Happy Valley, so he loves the track and drawing the inside barrier is ideal.

Consider at each-way odds.

Race 9. (00:50) Caine C3 Handicap (1200m)

#2 – Be Ready – Bet @ Sportsbet

Be Ready is already a winner this preparation and he’s more than capable of scoring another victory.

The five-year-old has a win and four placings on the track, including a two-length winning effort in March. That was a tidy effort and he has handled the rise in class since.

Matthew Poon rides and his 1kg claim helps.
