Happy Valley horse racing tips
—
Race 1. (22:10) Tai Lam Chung Handicap (1200m)
#8 – Brilliant Pioneer
Brilliant Pioneer returned to his best form when running second at Happy Valley last time out.
The five-year-old son of Belardo finished four lengths behind the winner, but he’s good enough to beat this field.
Barrier three adds weight to his chances.
Race 2. (22:40) Shek Pik Handicap (1650m)
#5 – Splendid Star
Splendid Star didn’t fire last time out, but his win at Sha Tin two back was a much better form guide.
The five-year-old gelding by Deep Field has winning form at Happy Valley when scoring in June, so he is a good bet.
Look for each-way odds on race day.
Race 3. (23:10) Tai Tam Handicap (1650m)
#6 – Concerto
Concerto looked good winning consecutive races at Happy Valley last preparation, so anything close to that form is good enough.
The seven-year-old hasn’t fully fired in two runs back from a spell, but he’s better for having race fitness.
If he gets luck from the wide draw, he should be right in the mix.
Race 4. (23:40) Shek Leu Pui Handicap (1000m)
#7 – Diamond Soars
Diamond Soars is shooting for three consecutive wins after scoring at Happy Valley by a half-length last start.
The five-year-old son of Deep Field is a three-time winner at the track, and getting in with a lighter weight helps his chances.
Barrier two is right up his alley.
Race 5. (00:10) The American Club Challenge Cup (1650m)
#2 – Durham Star
Durham Star comes off a win and he’s quick enough to go back-to-back.
The seven-year-old son of Deep Field is only a three-time winner overall, but with three wins and five placings at Happy Valley, he loves the track.
Having Zac Purton in the saddle will shorten his odds.
Race 6. (00:45) Plover Cove Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Golden Rise
Golden Rise ran fourth on debut at Happy Valley when finishing only a length behind the winner.
The four-year-old son of Written Tycoon ran at $18 odds, but with Purton riding, punters won’t get the same odds.
This race is there for the taking and he should be tough to hold out.
Race 7. (01:15) Kam Shan Handicap (1650m)
#3 – All is Good
All is Good comes off four consecutive wins, so it’s tough to back against the favourite.
The five-year-old won by 1.5 lengths fresh up, and he paid only $1.80 on that occasion, so expect short odds again.
His form has turned around in a big way, which is encouraging.
Race 8. (01:50) High Island Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Colourful Emperor
The Tony Cruz-trained three-year-old has had six starts for a win and two placings, which is a tidy record.
He comes off a narrow second placing at Happy Valley, so that was a handy fresh up effort in defeat.
It won’t take him long to get on the board this season.
