Happy Valley horse racing tips

Race 1. (21:45) Sir John C5 Handicap (1000m)

#10 – La Bomba – Bet @ Sportsbet

La Bomba has yet to win from 16 career starts but the Manfred Man-trained gelding has been running well this season.

The son of Time Thief finished third at Sha Tin to kick off his campaign and he wasn’t far behind them at Happy Valley last start.

He deserves a win so stick with him.

Race 2. (22:15) Gold Mount C5 Handicap (1800m)

#5 – Great Smart – Bet @ Sportsbet

Great Smart is a three-time winner that gets the services of Joao Moreira for this run. He is a son of Fastnet Rock that went only a half-length behind the winner last time out.

He gets every chance off the inside draw for this run and with the best jockey in the saddle, he will get every chance.

Expect his odds to shorten on race night.

Race 3. (22:45) Amazing Star C4 Handicap (1200m)

#11 – Super Eighteen – Bet @ Sportsbet

Tony Millard lines up the six-year-old gelding that has only one win to his name, but his last three starts have resulted in placings.

The son of Casamento owns two placings at Happy Valley and he is paying much shorter odds than the $26 he paid last start.

2.5kg comes off his back and that should make a difference.

Race 4. (23:15) Amazing Star C4 Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Harrier Jet – Bet @ Sportsbet

Harrier Jet is an experienced nine-year-old that owns six wins and 19 placings. He has the fitness edge over this field and his best form has come at Happy Valley.

He isn’t getting any younger but he was only a length behind Ares last start and that form should be good enough for this race.

Zac Purton rides and punters should get each-way odds.

Race 5. (23:45) The Longines C3 Cup (1650m)

#7 – Leap of Faith – Bet @ Sportsbet

John Size trains the four-year-old gelding that has shown plenty of ability to date. The son of Sebring owns two wins from eight starts and those have all come at Sha Tin.

Racing at Happy Valley for the first time shouldn’t present too many challenges and with Joao Moreira riding, he will get a good run.

Jumping from barrier seven with only 54kg is another positive.

Race 6. (00:15) Flying Elite C4 Handicap (1650m)

#6 – Play Wise – Bet @ Sportsbet

Play Wise is coming off back-to-back second placings and he could go one better. The seven-year-old son of Alamosa owns two wins at Happy Valley and multiple placings.

Both runs this season have been excellent and although he’s getting older, he still has plenty more good runs in store.

Race 7. (00:45) Speed Vision C3 Handicap (1200m)

#6 – Sky Darci – Bet @ Sportsbet

Sky Darci finds form quickly and with two wins and two placings from five starts, he is worth following this season.

The Caspar Fownes-trained gelding scored a win at Happy Valley two starts back and it came by two lengths. It was a top effort and anything similar would see it winning this race.

It is another good ride from Joao Moreira, so expect a solid effort.

Race 8. (01:15) Speed Vision C3 Handicap (1200m)

#6 – Shamport – Bet @ Sportsbet

Back-to-back wins could be on the cards for Shamport, which was too good for his opposition at Happy Valley last start.

The six-year-old won by 1.8 lengths and he put them away with ease. Having Moreira retain the ride is ideal and he only carries 2kg more than last time out.

It could pay to follow positive betting moves on race night.

Race 9. (01:50) Time Warp C2 Handicap (1800m)

#2 – Reliable Team – Bet @ Sportsbet

Reliable Team didn’t fire fresh up at Sha Tin but he is a past winner second-up and that bodes well for this run.

The Frankie Lor-trained gelding owns five wins from 14 starts and four of those have come at Happy Valley.

He could be too good for this field, so put him on top.
