Happy Valley horse racing tips
Race 1. (19:15) Tai Lam Chung C5 Handicap (1000m)
#8 – La Bomba – Bet @ Sportsbet
Manfred Man lines up the six-year-old gelding that has yet to win from 15 starts, but he hasn’t been far away this preparation.
The son of Time Thief finished third fresh up at Sha Tin before running two solid races at Happy Valley. They were solid performances and having Zac Purton in the saddle is ideal.
Expect a good run off the inside draw.
Race 2. (19:45) Shek Pik C4 Handicap (1650m)
#3 – Faithful Trinity – Bet @ Sportsbet
The six-year-old gelding is a five-time winner from 38 starts and his best form comes at Happy Valley.
He owns three wins and two placings on this track, including a win last month. That came by 1.3 lengths and he followed it up with a second placing.
Drawing barrier 10 isn’t ideal but he only needs luck.
Race 3. (20:15) Plover Cove C3 Handicap (1650m)
#3 – Jolly Honour – Bet @ Sportsbet
The son of Reliable Man is classy at best and he is coming off a tidy effort for second at Happy Valley.
He was only 1.3 lengths behind Lightning Steed and he always improves with a run under his belt. From five second-up starts, he owns two wins and a placing.
It is another good ride for Zac Purton and he could get the job done.
Race 4. (20:45) Shek Lei Pui C4 Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Ares – Bet @ Sportsbet
Frankie Lor lines up the talented gelding that owns a win and a placing from four career starts.
He scored his maiden win at Happy Valley in February before finishing second on the same track. He looked solid when running fourth last start and money is coming for him.
It is another good ride for Zac Purton and he only needs luck from the wide draw.
Race 5. (21:15) Shek Pik C4 Handicap (1650m)
#4 – Melbourne Hall – Bet @ Sportsbet
Melbourne Hall is a David Hall-trained runner that got the job done nicely at Happy Valley last time out.
It was an overdue win for the four-year-old son of Harbour Watch, which could kick on with it now that he has broken through.
Drawing barrier six is ideal and Blake Shinn takes the ride.
Race 6. (21:45) Shek Lei Pui C4 Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Kinda Cool – Bet @ Sportsbet
Kinda Cool scored a breakthrough win at Happy Valley last season and he could kick off this season with a win.
The Lor-trained son of Per Incanto won by a half-length at his first attempt at Happy Valley, so he could remain unbeaten.
Punters won’t get big odds but they are good enough to take.
Race 7. (22:15) Kam Shan C3 Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Mig Energy – Bet @ Sportsbet
Mig Energy is taking his time getting back into a winning groove but the five-year-old could get back to winning form.
The Tony Cruz-trained son of Redoute’s Choice is bred to win over longer distances, but he goes well at the sprinting distances.
Drawing barrier 12 won’t make it easy but he is worth sticking with.
Race 8. (22:50) High Island C2 Handicap (1000m)
#3 – Highland Fortune – Bet @ Sportsbet
Highland Fortune is a three-time winner with four placings, so he is rarely too far away from the mark.
The Lui-trained four-year-old is fresh up this season and although he takes time to find his best form, he could fire up.
Having Purton in the saddle from barrier two should give him every chance in the run.
