Happy Valley horse racing tips
Race 1. (21:15) Heung Yip C5 Handicap (1800m)
#3 – Sky Gem – Bet @ Sportsbet
Sky Gem is only a three-time winner from 39 starts, but two of those wins have come at Happy Valley on 14 attempts.
The six-year-old son of Niagara scored by two lengths at Happy Valley in June before running sixth at Sha Tin last time out.
Having Joao Moreira in the saddle is a bonus.
Race 2. (21:45) Island C4 Handicap (1650m)
#4 – Fast Pace – Bet @ Sportsbet
Fast Pace has had the benefit of having a start this season, which resulted in a fourth 10 days ago.
The six-year-old gelding does his best racing at Happy Valley, including wins and six placings behind 12 attempts.
Zac Purton takes the ride, and he should get every chance in the run.
Race 3. (22:15) Nam Fung C5 Handicap (1200m)
#11 – Xiang Lan Qi – Bet @ Sportsbet
The six-year-old is long overdue a winning turn and he doesn’t meet an overly tough field on Wednesday.
He owns just one placing from 12 starts, but that was an encouraging effort for fourth last time out at Happy Valley.
A repeat of that performance sees him winning this contest.
Race 4. (22:45) Shum Wan C4 Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Fire Ball – Bet @ Sportsbet
Fire Ball ended last season with a 1.8-length victory at Happy Valley, and we think he can kick off the new season in style.
The five-year-old son of Burgundy is a two-time winner on the track, and Zac Purton sticks with him for his third consecutive run.
Barrier four is ideal and we’re putting him on top.
Race 5. (23:15) Shum Wan C4 Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Stormtrouper – Bet @ Sportsbet
The son of Toronado was warming up last campaign and we think he can keep that form going on Wednesday.
He finished fifth at Happy Valley before running third behind Win Win Star, which was a tidy effort at this level of racing.
Carrying 55kg and Zac Purton in the saddle should make him tough to handle.
Race 6. (23:45) H.K. Country Club Challenge Cup (1650m)
#9 – Fa Fa – Bet @ Sportsbet
Fa Fa scored two wins from his last three starts last season, so we’re expecting something similar this time around.
The talented son of He’s Remarkable scored by 1.8 lengths at Happy Valley last start, which is the best form guide for this race.
52.5kg on his back is ideal, so put him on top.
Race 7. (00:15) Tai Shue Wan C3 Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Classic Posh – Bet @ Sportsbet
Classic Posh is a two-time winner on the track and four-time winner overall. He had three runs last preparation for a 1.3-length win and two third placings.
The son of Testa Rossa always hits the ground running early in the preparation and it’s another premium ride for Purton.
Punters should get each-way odds on race night.
Race 8. (00:50) Wong Chuk Hang C2 Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Igniting – Bet @ Sportsbet
Igniting is a professional four-time winner from 22 starts, which includes an impressive record at Happy Valley.
He owns two wins and four placings on the track from eight attempts. Despite having not won since February, he’s capable of showing up fresh.
Bookmakers should offer each-way odds.
