Happy Valley horse racing tips
Race 1. (21:15) Wan Chai C5 Handicap (1000m)
#9 – La Bomba – Bet Now
La Bomba gets the services of Joao Moreira and that could be enough to see him score an overdue win.
The Manfred Man-trained six-year-old owns three placings from 14 starts, but this field isn’t deep and his form in 2020 has been steady.
He is coming off a fifth on this track and with Moreira in the saddle, he could score his maiden win.
Race 2. (21:45) Tai Hang C4 Handicap (1650m)
#9 – Lady First – Bet Now
Lady First is only a one-win gelding but he showed good consistency last season. The seven-year-old ran third at Sha Tin in May before scoring consecutive fifths.
He owns four placings at Happy Valley and there has been plenty of early money come his way. Dropping to 55kg helps and drawing barrier two should see him land on the speed.
His second career win is beckoning and it could come on Wednesday.
Race 3. (22:15) North Point C4 Handicap (1000m)
#1 – Nextmodel – Bet Now
Nextmodel made a strong impression when winning last season at Happy Valley, and he could make a winning start this season.
The Yung-trained five-year-old scored by 2.8 lengths on this track and he jumped from barrier 12 on that occasion. He has drawn barrier 11 here, but his speed out of the gates is an asset.
Zac Purton sticks with him and we’re expecting a top effort fresh up.
Race 4. (22:45) Quarry Bay C4 Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Harrier Jet – Bet Now
Paul O’Sullivan lines up Harrier Jet, which owns six wins and 17 placings. The experienced nine-year-old scored at Happy Valley in June and he’s up to winning again.
He is a three-time winner at Happy Valley and the son of Dane Shadow is good enough to handle this level of opposition.
Each-way odds should be available and they are worth taking.
Race 5. (23:15) Quarry Bay C4 Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Power King – Bet Now
Power King scored a win on this track last season and he could pick up where he left off.
The Tony Cruz-trained gelding broke maiden grades in fine style and he looks like a progressive type that could rise through the grades.
He is a son of Written Tycoon that only needs some luck to figure in the finish.
Race 6. (23:45) Fortress Hill C3 Handicap (1650m)
#10 – Lightning Steed – Bet Now
Lightning Steed scored back-to-back wins on this track last season before running a close second last start.
The Caspar Fownes-trained gelding has three wins and three placings at Happy Valley, so it’s his favourite track and he could add another win.
Having Joao Moreira in the saddle is a bonus and punters could get value odds.
Race 7. (00:15) Causeway Bay C3 Handicap (1200m)
#1 – California Rad – Bet Now
Consistency is with California Rad, which has three wins and five placings from 13 starts. The Cruz-trained gelding hasn’t finished worse than second at his last five starts, and that includes three wins.
He scored by two lengths at Happy Valley in June before being narrowly beaten by The Runner last time out.
The exciting son of Fastnet Rock is drawn well with Karis Teetan in the saddle, so expect a top effort.
Race 8. (00:50) Causeway Bay C3 Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Wealthy Delight – Bet Now
John Size lines up the four-year-old gelding that is having his first start in Hong Kong. The former Australian scored at Warrnambool in January before running second at Sandown.
It’s not the best form from Australia, but it’s often good enough to win at Happy Valley. He will get better with more racing, but he could be worth an each-way bet here.
Look for a betting push on race night and with 55kg on his back, that could bring him into contention.
