Herbie Dyke Stakes (NZ) Form Guide & Tips
1. Sharp ‘N’ Smart (Best Each Way – $9)
Sharp ‘N’ Smart isn’t at his best, but we’re happy to keep the faith with the classy runner.
He owns over $3.1 million in stakes with six wins from 16 starts, and he has been a big race winner either side of the Tasman.
The odds are too good to pass up.
2. No Compromise ($17)
The former Australian didn’t fire last time out, which is a concern.
He might want the track with a little more moisture, so if the rain comes, he could be worth including as an outside chance.
3. Skyman ($17)
Another former Australian, who is a three-time winner over the distance, so he can’t be totally overlooked.
He wasn’t far away at Trentham, so we’re inclined to include him as a first four hope.
4. One Bold Cat ($11)
One Bold Cat looked good when winning consecutive races earlier this preparation.
Anything close to that form could take him close, but we don’t think Te Rapa is the right track for him.
We’re prepared to take the risk by leaving him out.
5. Mali Ston ($27)
He is always a tough horse to follow, and although that was a nice third placing last start, we can’t have him in selections.
We’re not sure if he’s capable of winning a Group 1.
6. Arby ($27)
We would prefer to see Arby in something much easier, just so he can get back to winning form.
It has been a while, and beating this field seems unlikely.
7. Legarto (Best Bet – $1.75)
Legarto, who won the Australian Guineas, fell short at Ellerslie last start. However, the track didn’t play into her hands.
She is an elite thoroughbred, and we expect her to put this field away with a blistering turn-of-foot in the straight.
The short odds were always going to be on the cards.
8. Campionessa ($6.50)
Money has come for Campionessa, and she’s good enough to bounce back after disappointing at Trentham.
Her form at Te Rapa includes three wins and two placings, and we’re not leaving her out of our selections.
Punters get each-way odds to snap up.
9. Aquacade ($10)
Aquacade is a potential first-four chance if she shows her best form on Saturday.
She owns seven wins and six placings from 17 starts, and she has yet to finish worse than third at Te Rapa.
We’re happy to include her to boost payouts.
10. Mazzolino (Best Roughie – $51)
Big odds are available for Mazzolino, and rightfully so, but we’re going to take the risk with her.
Her best form comes on the track, and jockey Sam Spratt has been kicking regular winners home.
Barrier three allows her to get a good trip in transit.
11. Lady Telena ($51)
A good placing last start but she will find this harder. We can’t have her in our selections.
