2024 Hong Kong Derby Form Guide & Tips
(1) Galaxy Patch ($4.80)
He’s the current second favourite after finishing second last start, and we’re not leaving him out of our picks.
A win wouldn’t surprise us.
(2) Helios Express (Best Bet – $2.50)
The rightful favourite after winning all the major lead-up races to the Hong Kong Derby.
The class runner who just needs some luck from the wide barrier, but Hugh Bowman could work his magic.
(3) Helene Feeling (Best Roughie – $21.00)
Only sixth in a similar field last time out, but we’re prepared to give him another chance at the odds.
He looked good winning earlier this preparation and it’s rare to see James McDonald out of the money in a Group 1.
(4) Chill Chibi ($19.00)
Only fair fresh up, but he was always going to improve with the run. A first four chance with luck in running.
(5) Ensued ($9.00)
Always around the mark and it’s good to see significant betting support for him throughout the week.
He’s a first four chance and a potential trifecta hope.
(6) Changcheng Glory ($15.00)
His second placing last start measures up well and he could figure in the finish. However, it’s a strong field, and we haven’t found room for him.
(7) Massive Sovereign (Best Each Way – $7.00)
A former European who won well fresh up at Sha Tin. That win came by 3.2 lengths, so he’s ready for the big time.
Having Purton riding helps his chances.
(8) Beauty Cresent ($51.00)
Never too far away, but this level of racing might be too much for him.
(9) Speed Dragon ($41.00)
Didn’t fire last start and it’s hard to make a case for him based on that effort.
(10) Unbelievable ($41.00)
Yet to show much this campaign, and although he needed two runs for fitness, he didn’t hit the line well enough.
(11) Ka Ying Generation ($71.00)
A good winner two back but he followed it up with little. Can’t have him at the odds.
(12) Elliptical ($101.00)
Since leaving Australia, his form has dropped off badly. That’s not a good sign.
(13) Simple Hedge ($101.00)
Second behind Massive Sovereign last start. Beaten easily though, so leave out at the price.
(14) Star Mac ($15.00)
The early wins were put on the board, but he has struggled to recapture that form this time in.
(15) Fallon ($41.00)
Not running well enough to consider at the odds.
(16) Bravehearts ($151.00)
Shouldn’t be in the race.
