Hong Kong Gold Cup Form Guide & Tips
1. Golden Sixty (Best Bet – $1.25) Bet @ Sportsbet
Stopping Golden Sixty seems impossible for his opposition this season. He has won 15 of his 16 starts and he’s one of the most exciting thoroughbreds in the world.
The five-year-old gelding had to fight to beat Southern Legend last start, but he has the class edge and punters should have him on their ticket.
$1.25 is short but we wouldn’t be betting against Golden Sixty to get the job done.
2. Exultant (Best Each Way – $7.50) Bet @ Sportsbet
Exultant is capable of beating Golden Sixty on his day and the 13-time winner shouldn’t be overlooked.
The seven-year-old son of Teofilo finished second behind Mogul in the Hong Kong Vase two starts back and that form bodes well.
Zac Purton rides and he could make the difference.
3. Furore ($8) Bet @ Sportsbet
The former Australian has been in solid form this season, including back-to-back wins at Sha Tin. Those came at Group 2 and 3 level, so he has been around the mark.
His most recent performance was a third placing in The Centenary Vase where he finished third behind Glorious Dragon. It was a solid effort and he has each-way claims.
4. Columbus County ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet
The last time Columbus County races against this level of opposition he finished third in the Hong Kong Vase.
It was a credible effort and although beaten since, he should have appreciated the race fitness under his belt.
The son of Redwood can’t be overlooked for first four players.
5. Playa Del Puente ($91) Bet @ Sportsbet
He isn’t coming off a successful campaign and we don’t think he’ll have much of a say in this race.
The five-year-old has had nine starts at Sha Tin for only one placing, so punters are wise to leave him out of calculations.
6. Time Warp ($67) Bet @ Sportsbet
It wasn’t long ago when Time Warp was all the rage, but his form has tapered off significantly over the last year.
The 12-time winner has struggled to regain his confidence and although he won this race last year, a repeat looks highly unlikely.
He might attract sentimental value on race night.
7. Glorious Dragon (Best Roughie – $17) Bet @ Sportsbet
The six-year-old comes off a win over Exultant and that form stacks up nicely. He finished best to score his career-best win and he could do it again.
He is a son of Teofilo that has loads of potential and punters get value odds for a last-start winner that beat many of his rivals.
Getting past Golden Sixty is unlikely, but place odds appeal.
