Hong Kong Vase Form Guide & Tips
1. Broome ($21) Bet @ betr
Broome hasn’t been in the best of form but he has been taking on extremely tough races, including the Prix de I’arc and Irish Champion Stakes.
He should find this slightly easier and he could add value to first four picks.
2. Bubble Gift ($17) Bet @ betr
He struggled in the Arc when running 24.4 lengths behind the winner, which is tough to bounce back from.
His form prior was solid enough but we’re not sure if he’s good enough to beat some of the more well-fancied runners in the Hong Kong Vase.
3. Glory Vase (Best Each Way – $3.40) Bet @ betr
Glory Vase is a strong Japanese runner who won the Hong Kong Vase last year, so there’s every reason he can go back-to-back.
Getting Joao Moreira in the saddle, in his return to Hong Kong, makes for a good story and he could win the first Group 1 of the night.
He’s paying each-way odds, so back him accordingly.
4. Mendocino ($21) Bet @ betr
Fresh up form reads well after winning fresh up last preparation. However, we don’t think he’s good enough to beat this field.
5. Botanik ($15) Bet @ betr
Botanik won three on the bounce last preparation before finishing 10th in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp.
Punters can’t rule out runners from the Andre Fabre stable, so he could enter first-four calculations with any amount of luck.
6. Senor Toba (Best Roughie – $11) Bet @ betr
Senor Toba is a local runner with recent placings in the Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse and Jockey Club Cup, so that form is good enough for the Vase.
He is only a four-time winner but he has always shown good ability and his form since graduating to top-level class has been solid.
7. Panfield ($26) Bet @ betr
Not running to his best ability in two starts back from a spell and we can’t include him in selections. He would need to improve significantly to win.
8. Butterfield ($41) Bet @ betr
Improving with every run this season but most of his form has come against much easier fields. He’s likely to struggle against some of the best stayers in the world.
9. Win Marilyn ($5) Bet @ betr
Win Marilyn comes off a second placing in the QEII Cup at Hanshin in Japan, so that form bodes well and we’re not leaving her out of calculations.
The five-year-old mare owns five wins from 16 starts, including a win in the Sho All Comers, which is often a good form guide.
10. Stone Age (Best Bet – $3) Bet @ betr
Stone Age is only a two-win colt but he gets the weight advantage and he comes off a good run at a high level.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt could give the trainer another win in this race and getting the inside draw with Ryan Moore riding helps.
We expect money to come for him on race night.
