The Blue Diamond Preview’s will run this Saturday at Caulfield and it could determine which runner starts favourite in the big race next month.
There’s some good stakes racing at Caulfield on Saturday and Rosehill also has some quality racing with the Carrington Stakes.
Summer racing is at full steam and we have done the form at both meetings to find our best tips for the day.
Caulfield free tips & form
Race 1. (13:00) Cape Grim Beef Plate (2000m)
#11 – Night’s Watch @ $4.40 – BET NOW
Darren Weir has high hopes for the former New Zealand runner and it’s paying good value in this.
The four-year-old by Redwood opened at $4 and has drifted during the week, likely due to the harder track, but he can handle good tracks so that shouldn’t be an issue.
His win at Sandown two starts back was impressive and not much went right for him at Werribee last start.
The 2000m is ideal and carrying 54kg will be a nice change for him.
Race 2. (11:30) Blue Diamond Preview (1000m)
#2 – Long Leaf @ $3.40 – BET NOW
Long Leaf has only narrowly won both of his starts to date, but the form out of those races has stacked up nicely.
The Lindsay Park-trained colt was a winner at Morphettville on debut before repeating the dose at Sandown last start.
He’s facing two other unbeaten types in this which has been well-backed in the market, but there’s a good amount of professionalism with this colt and he should continue his rise through the grades.
Race 4. (12:30) Blue Diamond Gala Plate (1100m)
#3 – Smart Coupe @ $2.30 – BET NOW
There was plenty to like about Smart Coupe’s two wins to start her career and she hasn’t been far away since.
The well-bred daughter of Smart Missile won by 2.8 lengths on debut at Wangaratta before scoring by just over a length at Sandown.
She then went to Moonee Valley and ran third behind Sam’s Image, which runs on Friday night, and she ran a quick 1000m time for that run.
Running down the straight at Flemington didn’t suit her last start, but that was an encouraging effort and she looks to be going places.
Race 7. (14:10) Ladbrokes Info Hub BM78 (1400m)
#4 – Cao Cao @ $4.60 – BET NOW
We’re going to continue backing Cao Cao until it returns us a win this campaign.
The Mick Price-trained gelding has loads of talent, but doesn’t always show it on race day.
He finished 1.3 lengths behind the winner at Caulfield last start, but he typically improves with racing under his belt and he looked to have good scope as a juvenile.
He finished 10th in the Blue Diamond last year which was too much too soon for him, but he should be winning shortly.
Race 8. (14:45) John Dillon Stakes (1400m)
#3 – Dollar for Dollar @ $3.40 – BET NOW
There was no disgrace in finishing third behind Burning Front last start and he should find this much easier.
The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding had won his last four starts heading into that defeat at Flemington and he defeated some quality types along the way.
The handicapper has given him less weight than what he carried last start and that’s going to make him tough to beat here.
Race 9. (15:20) Ladbrokes Handicap (1700m)
#4 – Morton’s Fork @ $3.80 – BET NOW
Morton’s Fork changes tack after running at Randwick last start and it has experience at Caulfield which should help his cause.
Trained by James Cummings, the four-year-old was making good late ground behind Dreamforce last start and after three runs in this campaign, he looks ready to strike.
This is a tricky field which is why his odds are at each way value, but he should be going close.
Rosehill free tips & form
Race 2. (13:20) Wilkes Quality (1100m)
#2 – Siege of Quebec @ $1.60 – BET NOW
Punters will be forced to take short odds for Siege of Quebec, but it should be a good banker for multi bets.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained three-year-old has won two of his three starts and his only defeat came at the hands of Menari.
He has since won a trial at Randwick to prepare for this and even though Single Bullet could be a test, Siege of Quebec should have them all covered by lengths.
Race 4. (14:30) Tab Highway Handicap (1100m)
#6 – Another Sin @ $3.30 – BET NOW
Another Sin looked the goods when winning on debut at Rosehill, but he didn’t cope with the rise in class.
The Brett Cavanough-trained three-year-old finished last of nine runners at Rosehill, but that came behind Pariah, which has since run well at stakes level.
He then took on a small but select field at Randwick last start and finished just over a length behind the winner.
That’s strong form for this Highway Handicap race and he should take advantage.
Race 6. (15:40) Theraces BM80 (1350m)
#11 – Moss Trip @ $3.10 – BET NOW
She might have only won at Kembla Grange last start, but it was an amazing performance.
The Snowden-trained filly was giving the speed a good eight lengths into the straight, but she quickly gathered in the field to record a two-length victory.
She has taken on city class before and struggled, but she’s a more mature type now and dropping to 53kg from an inside draw is going to make it tough for them to beat her.
Race 7. (16:20) Carrington Stakes (1400m)
#8 – George Patton @ $3.30 – BET NOW
There has been a stack of money come for the Snowden-trained import throughout the week.
The former French runner showed good form overseas and his connections are expecting a big effort first-up in Australia.
He was seen finishing second behind Egyptian Symbol in a recent trial at Randwick and that’s a great sign going forward this campaign.
