Winter racing continues this week with premier racing from Caulfield and Rosehill.
The early spring carnival isn’t too far away and some of the most promising thoroughbreds are starting to put in the work. That bodes well for punters that like betting on good types and there’s some good sorts in action this Saturday.
Caulfield free tips & form
Race 1. (11:50) Ladbrokes Handicap (1200m)
#7 – Ronan’s Rock @ $3.80 – BET NOW
It’s never easy to have full confidence in a debutante but Ronan’s Rock looks tough to beat in the opening race at Caulfield.
Trained by Lindsay Park, the two-year-old colt by Fastnet Rock is a well-bred commodity and there has been solid support in the market.
He opened at $4.80 and has firmed into $3.80. Craig Williams takes the ride and drawing barrier one is ideal.
Race 2. (12:25) Ladbrokes Back Yourself Handicap (1200m)
#4 – Josephine Sea @ $5.50 – BET NOW
That was a strong effort from Josephine Sea in defeat last start when she didn’t get much luck in the straight.
To finish only a nose behind the winner was a big effort and that came following an easy two-length win at Mornington and that form should stack up nicely against this opposition.
The daughter of Smart Missile has drawn to receive all favours throughout the run and $5.50 is a value price.
Race 3. (13:00) Ladbrokes Odds Boost BM90 (1700m)
#14 – Mantastic @ $2.90 – BET NOW
Former French runner Mantastic produced a fantastic effort to run second behind Haripour last start and although that form hasn’t stacked up since, it won’t take him long to get off the mark in Australia.
The Darren Weir-trained four-year-old has run consecutive second placings since arriving in Australia earlier this season and the slight rise in distance is only going to help his winning claims.
Carrying 54kg is ideal and we’re expecting some big bets to come for the talented stayer in the making.
Race 5. (14:10) Ladbrokes Exotics Handicap (1200m)
#3 – Rillito @ $2.05 – BET NOW
There were many critics writing off the chances of Rillito last start at Caulfield but the James Cummings-trained mare proved her doubters wrong.
The two-length win was a good effort considering she drew barrier 10 and Craig Williams will need to work his magic again from out wide.
Her odds have fluctuated throughout the week and although she might start at a higher price than $2.05, she could just as easily drop into even-money with some solid support.
Race 6. (14:50) Ladbrokes Cash Handicap (2000m)
#3 – Mount Kilcoy @ $3 – BET NOW
Jockey Dean Yendall got too far back on Mount Kilcoy last time out and it was a good performance to run second considering.
The Weir-trained three-year-old looks to have a nice future ahead of him and being by High Chaparral, he’s going to enjoy stepping up in distance.
Likely to still get back during the run, expect Ben Allen to get going a little earlier around Caulfield where the straight is significantly shorter than that of Flemington.
Race 7. (15:30) Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m)
#6 – Jukebox @ $3.20 – BET NOW
There has been strong money for the proven three-year-old which has form around the likes of Diamond Jubilee winner Merchant Navy and Blue Diamond winner Catchy.
The Ciaron Maher-trained colt by Snitzel is a winner of three of his six starts and he scored consecutive wins at Caulfield last year before running second on this track in October.
That form looks good for this and his odds have already been trimmed from $3.70 to $3.20.
Rosehill free tips & form
Race 2. (12:10) Tab Highway Handicap (1100m)
#2 – Rekindled Force @ $3.10 – BET NOW
Rekindled Force could be a force to be reckoned with here and showing plenty of promise during his first preparation.
The Paul Messara-trained three-year-old was a winner at his first two starts, with wins coming at Muswellbrook and Newcastle. He then ran in a tough grade behind the likes of Unforgotten and dropping back to the Highway Handicap is ideal.
He’s a well-bred type with a good turn-of-foot and drawing the inside barrier should ensure a sweet trip throughout.
Race 4. (13:20) Spring On Sale Sprint (1100m)
#6 – Alassio @ $3.20 – BET NOW
Unbeaten after three starts, Alassio could well keep that record in tact here against only a moderate field.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained mare was patiently-handled by the stable and quite incredibly has had six trial wins throughout her career. Add those to her three career wins and she’s a professional type which knows how to cross the line ahead of the rest.
$3.20 is a fair price and she will likely start a touch shorter.
Race 6. (14:30) Sydney West App BM80 (2000m)
#8 – Curragh @ $6 – BET NOW
Curragh flashed home to finish third last time out at Randwick and he’s on the one-week back up here.
The Busuttin/Young-trained five-year-old will likely have to get back from the draw of 16, but he possesses a good sprint and that helps at the end of a middle-distance race.
He has drifted out a half-point in the betting from $5.50 to $6 but he represents good each way value against this field.
