Randwick and Flemington host good betting cards this Saturday and we have free expert tips and form available.
The major trainers and jockeys are out in force and although it might be winter racing, there’s some quality thoroughbreds on show and it should be a great day on the punt.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 1. (11:40) Rosebud Prelude (1000m)
#1 – Plague Stone @ $2.10 – BET NOW
Plague Stone was all the rage on debut after winning a trial by 4.8 lengths and although he hasn’t converted trial form to race day, this is a much easier task.
The colt took on the likes of Written By in two runs at Caulfield before being tipped out for a spell. He has since returned with two trial wins, the most recent coming by three lengths and that’s a good sign for this.
There are some tough types in this field but he should get on the back on a runner approaching the turn and kick strongly.
Race 2. (12:15) Highway Handicap (1400m)
#8 – Nicconita @ $4 – BET NOW
Nicconita is paying a nice each way price for a consistent filly which has finished out of the money in only one of her eight career starts.
Trained by John Bateman, the three-year-old has run back-to-back second placings coming into this race but her form prior included consecutive wins to open this campaign.
She has drawn ideally in barrier two and jockey Blake Shinn should ensure that she gets a sweet trip in transit.
Race 5. (14:00) Theraces BM77 (1200m)
#2 – Bombarding @ $8 – BET NOW
The former Kiwi scored two wins at Wyong before running a close fourth behind Envy Of All last start and that form should stack up nicely.
Formerly trained by Stephen McKee in New Zealand, the speedy type scored immediate success in Australia and we’re surprised at the $8 on offer this week.
He ran as a $3.75 chance last start against a competitive field and with Hugh Bowman in the saddle, expect a tidy effort.
Race 6. (14:35) ATC Owners Card BM80 (1400m)
#8 – Seahampton @ $2.90 – BET NOW
Seahampton scored a quality win in a good form race last start and that form should stack up nicely throughout the winter.
The Chris Waller-trained filly has won two of her five starts to date and the breakthrough win last start might spur her on to more success this preparation.
The daughter of Sebring had to content with a wide draw last start, as she does here, but that was no problem at Randwick and having that experience on this track is ideal.
Race 7. (15:15) July Sprint (1100m)
#8 – Tactical Advantage @ $4.20 – BET NOW
The Kris Lees-trained gelding resumes for the first time in 2018 and he has been given three soft trials in preparation. He won two of them and given his history of running well fresh-up, punters should be confident.
He’s a four-year-old with form around the likes of Egyptian Symbol, Glenall and a host of other top-quality sprinters.
This level of opposition is a step below what he has faced throughout his career and at 53.5kg in the weights, he’s almost a weighting special.
Flemington free tips & form
Race 1. (11:55) VRC Recognition Handicap (1400m)
#6 – Shalwa @ $3.80 – BET NOW
Shalwa was left a little flatfooted last start but she picked up well in the straight to run within a nose of the winner.
That was a strong performance second-up this campaign and the O’Reilly filly is only going to improve with more racing under the belt.
Her consistent second placings are a worry, with four coming from six starts, but she has been facing some stiff competition and she is ideally suited to this race.
Race 2. (12:30) Wilson Medic One BM84 (1700m)
#7 – So Splendid @ $3.10 – BET NOW
The former Kiwi runner didn’t quite handle going right-handed in Sydney but returning back to Melbourne is a big positive.
With two recent placings under her belt, the four-year-old always shows good improvement with fitness and having the long Flemington straight to allow her to get into her best work is ideal.
Stephanie Thornton rides her for the first time, which is an interesting move from Chris Waller, but the weight off her back helps.
Race 3. (13:05) Vale Jack Franklin BM90 (2500m)
#4 – Crocodile Rock @ $2.40 – BET NOW
It’s never easy for a stayer to find form when resuming but the imported runner has a good record fresh and the 2500m is ideal.
His most recent effort was a second placing behind Melbourne Cup winner Almandin and that form is tough to look past. His form prior was solid as he stepped up over more ground and he will be tough to beat here.
His odds have firmed in from $2.60, which is good to see and we’re expecting a big run.
Race 6. (14:55) Trainers Trust Handicap (1100m)
#4 – Order of Command @ $3.40 – BET NOW
Form behind Nature Strip is going to hold this season and Order of Command finished second behind the star last start.
It has been a busy campaign for the two-race winner but he gets into this race with only 54.5kg on the back and that could be enough to sway the result in his favour.
Follow the betting but early signs lead to him starting close to the favourite.
Race 8. (16:15) K.A Morrison Handicap (2000m)
#6 – Sixties Groove @ $2.60 – BET NOW
That was a strong win from the imported runner last start and more wins are in store if he continues to perform in that manner.
The four-win gelding scored by 3.3 lengths at Flemington after finishing an unlucky second at Caulfield and another run on this track is only going to help his chances.
International form typically lines up well at these meetings so stick with this runner.
