Canterbury and Sandown host midweek meetings this Wednesday and we have free betting tips and form for both cards.
The rain has hit both tracks hard throughout the week but the surface should be in the soft range which will make for an even playing field.
There’s some great value bets across both meetings in Australia this Wednesday.
Canterbury free tips & form
Race 1. (12:50) Australian Turf Club Maiden (1250m)
#8 – Vitesse @ $6 – BET NOW
Chris Waller lines up the two-year-old filly which wasn’t too far behind a nice type on debut at Warwick Farm.
The daughter by Snitzel ran 5.3 lengths behind stakes-winner Pure Elation and she has since been primed with a trial win at Rosehill. That was a nice effort in preparation for this and it came easily by over a length.
She has drawn well in barrier two with James McDonald in the saddle and bookmakers are giving punters a good each way price.
Race 2. (13:25) Tab Maiden Handicap (1250m)
#10 – Nordicus @ $6 – BET NOW
There won’t be many better-bred runners at Canterbury than Nordicus, which is by Dundeel and out of Miss Finland.
The Bjorn Baker-trained colt won a trial at Rosehill by 1.5 lengths and bookmakers have him at $6 in the market. Had he drawn better than 11, he would be half that price but he’s a big winning chance with good barrier speed.
Expect the late money to come for the promising colt.
Race 5. (15:10) Everest 100 Days To Go BM76 (1100m)
#5 – Empress Matilda @ $4.60 – BET NOW
Team Hawkes lines up the three-year-old filly which ran into a nice type fresh up and improvement is expected this campaign.
She started her career well with a second placing on behind and then scoring a maiden win at Canterbury at double-figure odds. She hasn’t been able to show her best since but she gets into this race well at the weights and drawing barrier two helps.
This is an even field but Empress Matilda represents a good each way chance.
Race 6. (15:45) Winter Racing BM74 (1250m)
#9 – Paret @ $4.80 – BET NOW
Paret was an impressive winner on debut at Canterbury and returning to this track might help him turn his form around.
The Waller-trained runner was thrown into the deep end following that win and he never really showed much, but he drops back from racing against the likes of Unforgotten at Rosehill and he’s got every chance to impress here.
He will drop back from the wide draw and come with one big run.
Sandown free tips & form
Race 2. (13:00) Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1000m)
#1 – Ben Hercules @ $2.90 – BET NOW
The form around Ben Hercules reads well and we’re expecting a big effort from the Lindsay Park-trained colt.
He started his career by running second at Ballarat by a nose before running in the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfied which was taken out by Written By. The form out of that race is superior for midweek level and he backed that up with a win.
That came at Bendigo by a length and we’re predicting another tidy performance this time around.
Race 3. (13:35) Mypunter.com BM64 (1800m)
#7 – Legale @ $3.20 – BET NOW
The three-year-old gelding scored a convincing 1.3-length win at Ballarat last start and the rise in distance is only going to help his chances.
The Hayes/Dabernig-trained son of Nicconi doesn’t possess the same sprinting speed that most Nicconi runners have, but he looks to have a good middle-distance career in the making.
Money has come for him throughout the week and Craig Williams is riding in good form this season.
Race 4. (14:10) Clanbrooke Racing BM78 (2400m)
#5 – Hang Man @ $1.75 – BET NOW
Trainer Mike Moroney has this import travelling sweetly this campaign and he looked better than average when winning at Sandown last start.
The three-time winner had one start at Ascot in England before stepping up in distance in Victoria and having immediate success. Wins at Terang, Bendigo and Sandown all showed off his good turn-of-foot and this field shouldn’t be able to match him.
He’s a sneaky chance at securing a spot in the Melbourne Cup and a big win here would send him on his way.
Race 5. (16:45) Ladbrokes BM70 (1400m)
#5 – Naantali @ $3.50 – BET NOW
Naantali scored a good win at Geelong last start and she might kick on with it now. The 1.8-length win came to the delight of punters that took the short odds and she’s at a better price this time around.
Her form prior was disappointing but it came against the likes of Iconoclasm and Reilmartini, which would start at $1.60 against this level of opposition.
The inside draw is ideal and she should be given every chance to win by jockey Mick Dee.
Race 7. (15:55) Spicer Thoroughbreds BM64 (1300m)
#9 – Al Khabeer @ $3.90 – BET NOW
The three-year-old gelding was a quality winner on debut at Mornington and although drawn wide for this, he looks to have above-average ability.
Lindsay Park lines up the son of Commands which scored by 1.8 lengths on debut and has many more wins in store throughout his career.
He opened at $3.70 has drifted to $3.90 but he’s a good value chance at those odds.
