Feature racing is done until the Winx Stakes in August but there’s still some quality Saturday racing ahead.
We have free tips and form for racing at both Flemington and Randwick this Saturday, which includes some even betting fields and potential a few rising stars in the Australia thoroughbred ranks.
Flemington free tips & form
Race 1. (11:50) Rivette Series Final (1600m)
#4 – Mintha @ $2.40 – BET NOW
Mintha was upset by race-rival Casa De Lago last time out at Moonee Valley but the three-year-old could turn the tables.
Trained by Tony McEvoy, the filly by Redoute’s Choice is a one-race winner from 12 starts but she has placed on five occasions and against some quality fields. She took on tough company in Adelaide and returning to a bigger track at Flemington is ideal.
Drawn well in barrier three and Craig Williams is riding in good form of late.
Race 2. (12:25) VRC Cup Tour Trophy (2000m)
#5 – Sixties Groove @ $1.75 – BET NOW
Punters will have to take short odds around the imported runner but it looks too good for this lot.
The Darren Weir-trained five-year-old won three races in Europe before coming to Australia and having three starts for one placing.
He should improve at Flemington and the rise in distance is ideal. He was a winner over 2212m at Kempton Park in 2016 and he put the writing on the wall last time out.
Include the $1.75 in your multi bets.
Race 4. (13:35) Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m)
#3 – Remember The Name @ $5 – BET NOW
The three-year-old filly has back-to-back wins coming into this and she looks a good chance to win again.
Trained by Danny O’Brien, the daughter of Lope De Vega has been enjoying the conditions this season and with both wins coming at Flemington, that’s going to help her chances of winning again.
She will need some luck from a tricky draw but the long straight at Flemington helps and she has a nice turn-of-foot to call upon.
$5 is a good price from bookmakers.
Race 5. (14:10) Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m)
#1 – Good ‘N’ Fast @ $3.30 – BET NOW
That was a strong win from Good ‘N’ Fast last start and he’s a colt that looks to have a nice future ahead of him.
The Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old scored nicely at Flemington last start after running second on debut on the same track and having that track experience will help the young colt.
He rises in distance but that shouldn’t be a negative and the son of Sebring looks well-placed to make it two wins from three starts.
Race 7. (15:30) Creswick Series Final (1200m)
#1 – Nature Strip @ $1.45 – BET NOW
We’re taking the short odds on offer for Nature Strip because his last start win was that of a gelding going to the top.
The son of Nicconi won by 4.5 lengths down the Flemington straight and was a fraction off setting a track record with 60.5kg on his back and on a rain-affected track/
He has Group 1 potential and we’re expecting his odds to drop to an unbackable price.
Race 8. (16:10) Winter Championship Final (1600m)
#6 – Ozi Choice @ $4.60 – BET NOW
Ozi Choice was beaten but not disgraced last start when running second behind Chamois Road. The two meet again here but Ozi Choice is much shorter in the market and we think he has the better winning opportunity.
The Weir-trained five-year-old is a two-time winner on this track and he drops nicely to 56kg for this run, which will hold him in good stead.
Needs some cover from out wide but he has a better sprint than most of these.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 1. (11:35) Theraces Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Marmaris @ $3 – BET NOW
The James Cummings-trained colt is coming off a strong placing behind Dio D’oro last start and that form should stack up nicely against this moderately inexperience field.
His odds have drifted since markets opened, mostly due to drawing barrier eight, but that might be a help in what should be wet track conditions.
Follow any strong betting moves on the day.
Race 2. (12:10) Tab Highway Handicap (1200m)
#5 – Highway Sixtysix @ $2.65 – BET NOW
The three-year-old filly had four runs during her maiden preparation and her form looks good for her return.
Trained by Danny Williams, the daughter of Snippetson scored a 3.3-length win at Wagga before placing at Rosehill last start. Prior to those runs she ran only 1.9 lengths behind She Knows and that form has been franked since.
Blake Shinn rides and he should ensure she gets a good run throughout.
Race 3. (12:45) Randwick Mayor’s Cup (1100m)
#2 – Bombarding @ $3.60 – BET NOW
Former New Zealand runner Bombarding has won both starts in Australia at Wyong and he has always possessed good talent.
Formerly trained by Stephen McKee, who retains ownership, the three-year-old has scored back-to-back 1.8-length wins at Wyong and although rising in grade for this, he has a good sprint and that could be shown off again.
This is a tough field but early money has come his way.
Race 7. (15:10) Wallaby Cup BM90 (1800m)
#3 – Dagny @ $5 – BET NOW
Dagny gets conditions to suit this Saturday and the Chris Waller-trained mare should have an improved showing after running sixth last start.
The six-time winner hasn’t shown much consistency throughout her career but she has good talent and any easing of the track won’t worry her.
Waller has six in the race and it’s good to see James McDonald in the saddle of this runner.
