Group 1 racing takes a break this week but there’s some quality fields at Sunshine Coast and Rosehill.
Both meetings boast nine-race betting cards and we have free tips, form and odds for the best races on offer this Saturday.
Sunshine Coast free tips & form
Race 1. (12:42) Stanley River Plate (1000m)
#12 – Spending To Win @ $1.80 – BET NOW
Punters will have to take the shorts in the opening race but the consistent gelding looks a good bet.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained four-year-old has finished in the first three in 15 of his 17 starts and that’s an incredible record to date.
He gets into this race perfectly at 54.5kg with Corey Brown in the saddle and his recent form behind the likes of To Excess and Glenall shapes up well.
Race 2. (13:17) Ubet Handicap (1000m)
#1– Prom Queen @ $6.50 – BET NOW
The Kiwi filly is a winner of eight from her 14 starts and although she hasn’t been at her best in recent times, her best is easily good enough to win this.
She’s a daughter of Super Easy which is unbeaten in four starts over this distance and she has great barrier speed, which will help her cross from a tricky draw.
There isn’t a runner in this field than can keep up and if she’s close to her best, she’ll be winning at nice odds.
Race 4. (14:37) Oxlade Stakes (1200m)
#8 – Granny Red Shoes @ $4 – BET NOW
That was a big effort from Granny Red Shoes to finish second behind Euwase last start and that formn looks good for this.
The Toby Edmonds-trained two-year-old came from near last to put in the big bounds late and although she has drawn wide again, this field looks easier to handle.
Punters should expect the daughter of Not A Single Doubt to be ridden patiently by Jeff Lloyd and hopefully they go quickly up front and she rattles home.
Race 5. (15:17) P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m)
#7 – Egg Tart @ $1.65 – BET NOW
Punters will again have to short odds with Egg Tart but Group 1 form is going to stack up well in this race.
The Chris Waller-trained mare hasn’t won for a long time but she placed second behind Comin’ Through in the Doomben Cup and her opposition doesn’t boast the same form lines.
Interesting jockey placement with New Zealand rider Leith Innes taking the ride but put clearly on top here.
Race 6. (15:57) Lightning Stakes (1000m)
#2 – Nieta @ $4 – BET NOW
We have been waiting to back Nieta on a rain-affected track and the situation arises this Saturday.
The John Thompson-trained mare has been running solid races this campaign without winning but she’s unbeaten in three runs on a soft track and has won twice in the heavy going.
She hasn’t been getting much luck in running either, so drawing barrier four should ensure she gets a good trip in transit and we’re expecting a big effort at each way odds.
Race 8. (17:15) H Coughlan Stakes (1200m)
#18 – Epidemic @ $7 – BET NOW
The James Cummings-trained three-year-old is in hot form after consecutive wins to open her account this campaign.
Back-to-back wins at Rosehill have been narrow victories but they have shown her class and she looks to be going to the next level.
Carrying 54kg is going to make her a winning chance again and we’re surprised at the $7 odds on offer.
Rosehill free tips & form
Race 3. (12:35) Theraces BM76 (1200m)
#8 – Brabinger @ $3 – BET NOW
Kris Lees lines up unbeaten colt Brabinger, which has scored both his wins by over two lengths.
The three-year-old colt by Snitzel scored at Newcastle on both occasions and meets a field with experience here but he looks ready for the rise in grade.
His odds have dropped from $4.20 to $3 and that’s a big push.
Race 4. (13:10) Tab Highway Handicap (1400m)
#2 – Hemmerle @ $3.60 – BET NOW
Punters shouldn’t discount Hemmerle based on his most recent defeat, which came behind some nice types at Rosehill.
The Danny Williams-trained gelding was a winner at his first two starts and he drops back to Highway Handicap grade for this.
Rising up in weight won’t be an issue as he carried 58.5kg and 59kg to victory earlier this year. That’s a good sign and we’re expecting his current odds to firm.
Race 7. (15:05) Sydney’s West App BM82 (1500m)
#2 – I Am Serious @ $2.70 – BET NOW
I Am Serious is a serious thoroughbred which has won six of her nine career starts.
Trained by Chris Waller, the four-year-old returned from a spell with a disappointing seventh this preparation but quickly rebounded with a 1.8-length win at Rosehill last start.
She will have to contend with a wide draw and a big weight for this but James McDonald rides and he should be able to go close on the talented mare.
