Mackay horse racing tips & form

Race 1. (14:38) Tab Long May We Play C3 (1800m)

#1 – Lassiter’s Lode – Bet @ Sportsbet

Lassiter’s Lode has finished out of the money in only one of his 10 career starts, and he should be tough to beat on Wednesday.

The four-year-old son of Star Witness owns three wins and six minor placings from just 10 starts. His record should be improved here, as this race is no harder than what he faced at Townsville.

Expect jockey Ryan Wiggins to settle him just off the pace and work home solidly.

Race 2. (15:13) Smart State Rentals Handicap (1100m)

#2 – Russian Weapon – Bet @ Sportsbet

Russian Weapon owns three wins from seven starts and he could add to his win tally on Wednesday.

The three-year-old is a two-time winner from four starts at Mackay, and he has yet to finish outside the placings in three starts at the distance.

He is a capable type that can go back-to-back at Mackay.

Race 3. (15:48) Join Exclusive 100 Club Maiden (1300m)

#1 – More Than Luck – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Ricky Vale-trained gelding is getting close to a win after posting consecutive placings at Mackay and Rockhampton

He was only 1.4 lengths behind the winner at Rockhampton, and form out of that venue stacks up nicely at the midweeks.

More Than Luck shouldn’t need luck to exit maiden grades, and it could come on Wednesday.

Race 4. (16:23) MTC Event Centre BM70 (1560m)

#3 – Helmaz – Bet @ Sportsbet

Helmaz seeks back-to-back wins after scoring at Townsville by over a length last time out. It was his fourth career win from 25 starts, so he has ability.

The son of Helmet has yet to race at Mackay, but he rarely runs a bad race and punters could get each-way odds for this race.

Ryan Wiggins rides, and it could pay to watch for market movement.

Race 5. (16:58) Event Centre Functions R55 (1560m)

#3 – Carlin Trend – Bet @ Sportsbet

Carlin Trend kicked off his season with an overdue win at Rockhampton, and he is a good chance to win again.

The Vale-trained four-year-old defeated a field of 15, so it was a quality outing and he’s capable of repeating the dose.

Prior to that he finished second at Hawkesbury, and provincial NSW form reads well for this level of racing.

Race 6. (17:33) Sky Racing C6 (1200m)

#4 – Ibini – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ibini hasn’t shown much this season, but the six-year-old son of Commands will appreciate the change in scenery.

The former Brett Cavanough-trained runner moves from New South Wales to Queensland in the hopes of turning his form around.

He doesn’t meet an overly tough field, with the exception of Fanaar, and he could run at generous each-way odds.

Race 7. (18:08) Tab Make Date With Play R55 (1200m)

#2 – Roadhouse – Bet @ Sportsbet

Roadhouse scored a win on debut at Mackay before finishing second at Toowoomba last time out.

Both performances bode well for this race, and getting back to Mackay could work the trick on Wednesday.

Barrier 12 doesn’t make it easy over this distance, but punters should be confident in a top performance.

Race 8. (18:42) Racing Again Tuesday 9/2 C3 (1100m)

#3 – Overseas – Bet @ Sportsbet

The three-year-old has made a good start to his career with seven starts for three wins and three placings.

He scored back-to-back wins to kick off this preparation, and the most recent came by 1.8 lengths against a talented field.

Drawing barrier one is ideal and there is plenty of upside with Overseas.
