It’s a big night at Moonee Valley this Friday which sees the running of the Abell Stakes and the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes.
Some of the middle-distance three-year-olds line up in the Alister Clark, which includes Cliff’s Edge, Levendi and Astoria.
We have form and free tips for every race on the action-packed betting card.
Moonee Valley free tips & form
Race 1. (18:30) Fisher & Paykel 0MW (1000m)
#4 – Gorokan Express @ $7 – BET NOW
The two-year-old is on debut for Lindsay Park and although he has drawn wide in barrier 13, he looks a nice type in the making.
Spirit of Boom’s progeny have been running extremely well this season and the fact that this colt hasn’t had any trials to prepare for this is a good sign.
Not an easy way to kick off proceedings at Moonee Valley but this runner should present some value in the market.
Race 2. (19:00) 1Print BM78 (2040m)
#1 – Ashlee Marie @ $3.60 – BET NOW
The Richard Laming stable is in good form this season and Ashlee Marie is knocking on the door of a win.
Having finished second at her last two starts, Ashlee Marie looks well-placed in this grade and there are no last-start winners going against her.
Her track record doesn’t read well with two starts for no placings, but she will appreciate this distance and she has a good enough turn-of-foot to win at this level.
Race 3. (19:30) Ladbrokes Friday Night Light BM64 (2040m)
#7 – Skilled Hunter @ $5 – BET NOW
Skilled Hunter has won multiple times already this season and trainer Darren Weir has it running along nicely.
The three-time winner scored by two lengths at Ararat last start and that capped off some fair form at Warrnambool.
He carried 60.5kg to win last start and dropping to 59.5kg with Mark Zahra in the saddle can only be seen as a positive.
Getting the inside draw is ideal and we’re expecting another good effort from the four-year-old.
Race 4. (20:00) Production Resource group BM70 (1200m)
#14 – Ruchla @ $6.50 – BET NOW
Seeing Craig Williams jump back in the saddle of Ruchla having finished second on her back two starts back is a good sign.
The John Sadler-trained three-year-old filly was an impressive winner since then at Pakenham when Mark Zahra was in the saddle, but Williams returns to ride this time around.
The light weight chance gets into the race with only 55.5kg on her back and she will get every chance from barrier two.
Follow any strong betting moves for the progressive filly.
Race 5. (20:30) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (955m)
#5 – Khan @ $4.40 – BET NOW
Khan has all the talent in the world, but unfortunately that talent is rarely seen on race day.
The three-year-old has been to the trials more times than most horses and he produced his best trials performance last start when winning by 3.5 lengths at Randwick.
The troublesome gelding by Exceed And Excel has disappointed in his last three wins since scoring on debut and although he could get caught wide from barrier 10, he does possess good early pace.
This should be an interesting betting field so follow any moves for the gelding.
Race 6. (21:00) Schneider Electric Abell Stakes (1200m)
#3 – Cannyescent @ $13 – BET NOW
Cannyescent hasn’t been able to show its best against some quality opposition this campaign, but he’s better suited to this grade.
The Lindsay Park-trained gelding has won seven of his 19 career starts and there’s no Secret Agenda or Super Cash lining up here.
The five-year-old has yet to run at Moonee Valley and at night, which is a concern but he’s beaten some nice types during his career and his second placing behind Hey Doc at Flemington is a great form guide.
Expect a nice run and he should be paying handy each way odds.
Race 7. (21:30) Alister Clark Stakes (2040m)
#1 – Cliff’s Edge @ $1.85 – BET NOW
Cliff’s Edge punctured late behind Grunt last start in the Guineas after setting a torrid pace up front and this should be more suitable.
The Weir-trained three-year-old has won over $600,000 from his five career wins and he loves to lead, which sets him up perfectly for Moonee Valley.
The last time he raced here he finished second behind Aloisia and that form should be taken note of.
He’s ideally suited by the set weights and he should rail up nicely from barrier four and give them something to chase around the home turn.
Race 8. (22:00) Art Series Hotels BM64 (1600m)
#11 – Mujaadil @ $2.80 – BET NOW
Talented type from the Weir stables which scored a deserved 1.3-length win at Pakenham last time out.
The colt by Not A Single Doubt had been running against tough opposition prior to that and now that he’s broken through, expect another good effort here.
He has drawn well and although he likes clear racing room out wide, drawing closer in is a big plus on this track.
