The quality entrée before the Golden Slipper on Saturday at Rosehill, the eight-race card at Moonee Valley is packed full of good races and good bets.
We’ve got free racing tips for the entire card this Friday night at Moonee Valley.
Moonee Valley free tips & form
Race 1. (18:30) Simpson Construction Pearl (1200m)
#1 – Chess Star @ $3.40 – BET NOW
Having track experience at Moonee Valley is key as Chess Star has it.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained two-year-old finished third behind Yulong Monoceros last start and the colt showed good pace from the barriers, which is another good asset to have.
There isn’t much exposed form in this race and Chess Star has been nicely backed to win the opening race on William Reid Stakes night.
Race 2. (19:00) Let It Ride BM70 (2040m)
#2 – Rock Away @ $4.80 – BET NOW
Rock Away didn’t have much luck in behind race-rival Divine Command last start and she could turn the tables here.
The six-year-old has a good record at Moonee Valley and she didn’t have a clear crack at them last start. This is a good chance to make up for that bad luck and although drawing barrier two could see her get trapped on the inside, Craig Williams takes over the reins.
He rides The Valley well and she should be in clear racing room approaching the turn.
Race 3. (19:30) Absolute MBA Office BM70 (1200m)
#8 – Maximus @ $3.10 – BET NOW
Maximus has been a model is consistency throughout his seven-start career, winning two and placing in four.
The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained four-year-old finished third at Pakenham last time out behind the talented Brahmos and although this is his first start around The Valley, he has form around tight-turning tracks.
Just needs some early luck from the draw to figure in the finish.
Race 4. (20:00) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (955m)
#3 – Super Too $1.55 – BET NOW
Any horse that finishes third behind Redzel at Group 2 level is going to be tough to beat against inferior opposition.
Marc Connors lines up the mare by Hinchinbrook, which looked good to start 2018 when winning consecutive races and since then she has taken on the best sprinting opposition.
She won her only start on this track and only bad luck would stop the odds-on favourite from winning here.
Race 5. (20:30) Alexandra Stakes (1600m)
#1 – Seannie @ $5 – BET NOW
It might have looked like a disappointing run when finishing sixth behind Bella Martini last start, but Seannie was hitting the line with purpose.
Stepping up to the mile is ideal here and this is a track where she has shown a blistering turn-of-foot in the past when winning three back and also running third behind Tulip two starts ago.
Drawing wide doesn’t matter as she will drop back and she only needs a drag into the race to show her best talents.
After opening at $5.50, Seannie has firmed a half-point.
Race 6. (21:00) Sunline Stakes (1600m)
#4 – Spanish Reef @ $2.65 – BET NOW
Spanish Reef is in some kind of form, winning her two starts this campaign and in fine style.
The Ken Keys-trained four-year-old mare scored by 1.8 lengths at Flemington to start this campaign and followed that up with another solid performance to score at Flemington.
She has experience on this track when running second to Samovare and then fourth behind Derby winner Jon Snow.
Although she was beaten by Samovare on that occasion, it hasn’t won since and Spanish Reef is in the much better form.
Race 8. (22:00) Autolamps Boiling Plate (1200m)
#12 – Garrard @ $9.50 – BET NOW
Value is with Garrard here at $9.50.
The Busuttin/Young-trained three-year-old has won and placed from three fresh up starts and she usually hits the ground running.
The well-bred daughter of Sepoy has trialed well for this when fourth at Cranbourne and although she takes on a good field here, the 55kg on her back helps.
