We might be coming into winter but the racing still has an autumn vibe about it.
We have tips for the best races at Doomben and also for the great betting card at Randwick this Saturday.
Doomben free tips & form
Race 1. (11:10) Wilpak Wholesale Meats BM95 (1200m)
#7 – Tyzone @ $3.50 – BET NOW
The wide draw will have to be navigated by jockey Jeff Lloyd but Tyzone looks a good chance at winning consecutive races.
Trained by Toby Edmonds, the four-year-old gelding has won 12 of his 20 starts and he simply loves winning.
This is another rise in class for the son of Written Tycoon but he only needs some cover during the run to show his skills again.
Race 2. (11:46) Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix (2200m)
#2– Dark Dream @ $1.80 – BET NOW
Dark Dream has been one of the more impressive Brisbane Winter Carnival types so far this year.
The three-year-old ran three consecutive second placings before breaking through by four lengths last start at Doomben.
That was a coming-of-age win from the All American gelding and there doesn’t appear to be any significant rivals coming up against him here.
$2.10 was on offer but punters should have no problem dipping into the odds-on quote.
Race 3. (12:21) Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m)
#3 – Kiwia @ $6 – BET NOW
Things haven’t quite gone the way of the former Melbourne Cup favourite this season but that could all be forgotten this Saturday.
The Darren Weir-trained gelding finished an unlucky second at Caulfield two starts back before running into sticky conditions at Warrnambool last start.
The six-time winner has class on his side and he’s going to get every chance off the inside draw.
He runs his best races on dry tracks and conditions will suit.
Race 4. (13:00) Lord Mayor’s Cup (1630m)
#14 – Nurse Kitchen @ $8.50 – BET NOW
The seventh from Nurse Kitchen might have looked average last start but she rattled off some good closing sectionals.
A four-year-old which has won two from eight starts in an interrupted career, Nurse Kitchen looks set to put her moderate performances behind her with a big effort here.
She has drawn wide but James McDonald will likely drop her back and rely on a touch of luck in the straight.
She opened at $15 and the big money has come for her during the week.
Race 5. (13:40) BRC Sires’ Produce (1350m)
#4 – Graff @ $4.80 – BET NOW
Also accepted at Randwick but the betting suggests that he will be lining up at Doomben.
The Kris Lees-trained colt is unbeaten after two starts and although the winning margin hasn’t been outstanding, there was a good amount of toughness in the wins.
He has drawn on the inside of current favourite Zousain and he could dictate the pace of this race.
He has firmed from $7 to $4.80 and we’re expecting more money to come for the son of Star Witness.
Race 6. (14:20) Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m)
#1 – Foxplay to place @ $4 – BET NOW
Foxplay isn’t the same runner she used to be and her form suggests that but she’s a value chance in this.
The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old has won over $1.4 million and she had a stellar three-year-old season. This season hasn’t been quite that good but the talent is there.
She is drifting significantly in the market but stick with her.
Race 9. (16:16) Fred Best Classic (1350m)
#2 – Whypeeo @ $3.40 – BET NOW
The Toby Edmonds-trained gelding was defeated by Champagne Cuddles last start but he lost no admirers.
Champagne Cuddles is running at Group 1 level and Whypeeo stays in his grade for another good chance of winning.
His effort prior to that was a four-length win on this track and we’re surprised he’s not shorter in the market.
He did open at $2.80 and has since drifted alarmingly, but he’s the class act of this field and should be going close.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 1. (11:25) Energy Air Plate (1400m)
#5 – The Autumn Sun @ $2.60 – BET NOW
The Autumn Sun couldn’t have been more impressive on debut when winning at Randwick.
He’s a well-bred son of Redoute’s Choice who has a stud career looming if he continues to win at this level.
Chris Waller trains the talented type and he’s going to get every chance to win again from barrier two. He will likely settle just behind the speed and be hitting the line with purpose.
Race 4. (13:15) Tab Highway Handicap (1000m)
#1 – She Knows @ $2.70 – BET NOW
She Knows will have to carry the grandstand to victory here but she’s clearly the best horse in this race.
The Danny Williams-trained three-year-old scored a 2.5-length win at Hawkesbury two starts back before running a quality second placing at Scone.
The three-time winner has 62.5kg on her back here but that won’t make too much of an impact over the short-course distance.
Race 6. (14:35) Wilson Asset Management BM79 (2000m)
#3 – Live And Free @ $2.60 – BET NOW
That was an impressive win last start when scoring by 3.3 lengths and he looks like a gelding going places.
Trained by John O’Shea, the three-year-old relished the rise in distance and stepping up over 2000m is going to suit him nicely.
Punters shouldn’t be worried about the wide draw and there’s good confidence in the market.
Race 9. (16:30) Anthony Diprose Memorial BM77 (1400m)
#11 – Fierce Impact @ $6 – BET NOW
Imported runner for Matthew Smith which looked good in his Australian debut.
The four-year-old didn’t race against the top opposition in Europe but that form could be good enough to take this out.
He hit the line with purpose at Warwick Farm last start and that’s good enough form for this.
