Randwick Melbourne Cup Day Betting Tips

Race 1. (11:30) Precise Air Maiden Handicap (1400m)

#8 – I Am Lethal @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet

He was less than lethal last start, but his effort for second at Newcastle should have him in fit order.

The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old was only a length behind the winner, and there is improvement with the well-bred son of I Am Invincible.

Punters get value odds, so include.

Race 2. (12:20) Heineken 3 Maiden (1100m)

#10 – Arranmore @ $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Arranmore finished second behind Espiona last start, which looks like good form for this level of racing.

The Chris Waller-trained filly also finished second on debut behind Able Willie, which is good form as well.

She should be right in the finish again.

Race 3. (13:00) Task BM72 (1300m)

#5 – Espiona @ $1.60 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Espiona showed her class when scoring by 3.5 lengths on debut at Warwick Farm. She was heavily backed and she didn’t let punters down.

The daughter of Extreme Choice had looked good when winning two trials, and she was professional in the outing.

Drawing the inside is ideal, and she should put them away again.

Race 4. (13:40) City Tattersalls Club BM68 (1600m)

#6 – Roots @ $2.25 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Roots won easily on debut at Goulburn before finishing second behind Fangirl at Randwick, which has since been franked by the Oaks contender.

The three-year-old filly has excellent form guides for this contest, and the betting support is hardly surprising. She opened at $3.20, so it has been a strong move.

Race 5. (14:25) The Agency BM72 (2000m)

#2 – Jesse James @ $3.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Jesse James is a consistent five-year-old who owns two wins and six placings from nine starts.

The Annabel Neasham-trained gelding scored a fresh up win at Goulburn before winning at Newcastle by 3.3 lengths last start.

It was a comprehensive win, so the $3.90 against this field is worth taking.

Race 6. (15:40) Tab BM72 (1000m)

#10 – Satin Ribbons @ $4.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Satin Ribbons was far too quick for them at Newcastle last start, and she looks like a filly on the rise.

The Snowden-trained three-year-old shot to the front and scored by a length, so we’re expecting similar tactics here.

54kg is ideal and punters get fair odds.

Race 7. (16:20) Bentley Choisir BM100 (1100m)

#3 – Southern Lad @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Value is with Southern Lad, who is a proven fresh up specialist. The O’Shea-trained gelding owns two wins and four placings from seven fresh up starts, which reads well.

He also owns two wins and nine placings at Randwick, so he loves the track and getting $6 is a generous price.

Hugh Bowman rides, so that adds confidence.

Race 8. (17:00) Quayclean BM72 (1600m)

#5 – Another One @ $11 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Another One will need luck from the barrier draw of 20, but he should be right in the mix with some luck.

The four-year-old son of Super One is a four-time winner from 11 starts, and one of them has come at Randwick.

3kg comes off his back, so punters should entertain the double figure odds.

Race 9. (17:40) Cleanaway BM72 (1300m)

#9 – Mollycoddle @ $9 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Mollycoddle finished third fresh up at Warwick Farm and she could improve on that position.

The Cummings-trained mare gets the inside draw for this race, and that should see her settle closer to the pace.

It’s an open contest, but she gets the Bowman factor.
