Metropolitan Form Guide & Tips
(1) Kalapour ($46.00)
Drawn wide and it hasn’t shown enough this prep to warrant attention at the big price.
(2) Military Mission ($35.00)
Makes his own luck in front but he hasn’t been able to show his usual zip in two starts back from a spell.
A win would be a surprise.
(3) Serpentine ($14.00)
He has been a tough horse to follow since arriving in Australia, but he’s good enough to feature in the finish at double-figure odds.
Tim Clark is an expert judge of pace, and that could make the difference.
(4) Que Tempesta (Best Roughie – $19.00)
His form in Melbourne since arriving has been solid without being brilliant, but coming to Sydney could help.
The ability is there, and we think he has been saving a good run for this moment.
(5) Alegron ($46.00)
The ability is there but the consistency is not. Tough to recommend based on his recent effort, so we haven’t found room for him.
(6) Cleveland ($126.00)
Not running well enough and he’s looking for something much easier now.
(7) Athabascan ($23.00)
Hit the line nicely last time out, despite finishing 10th. 54kg on its back is ideal and it should be included in first four picks at a price.
(8) Trust in You ($151.00)
The Kiwi would need to grow another leg to feature in the finish. Connections are having a go, but it doesn’t seem likely to pay off.
(9) El Bodegon ($101.00)
Not firing at all, and he would need to improve out of sight just to finish in the first half of the field.
(10) Zardozi ($12.00)
She has become a rather dour staying type, but that’s often good enough to win the Metropolitan.
Can’t be left out with 52kg on her back, and the Cummings stable rarely misses a placing with their top runners.
(11) Future History ($10.00)
Improving nicely this preparation with two placings, including running a slashing second at Caulfield.
51.5kg on his back and he’s another runner good enough to win.
(12) Star of India ($151.00)
Disappointing recent efforts and we can’t include him at the price.
(13) Etna Rosso ($10.00)
A two-time winner this prep. Comes off a win at Newcastle when beating Wyclif, but we’re not loving the current odds.
A first four chance but he’s not being included in our win bets.
(14) Land Legend (Best Each Way – $8.00)
Won the St Leger last season and he has been building to another win this preparation with a sixth at Randwick.
Wants more distance and gets it here.
(15) First Light ($12.00)
He scored a long overdue win last week when breezing by. Much harder here, and because of the depth, we’re leaving him out.
(16) Manzoice ($19.00)
Running well and he adds more depth to the field. Every chance with a light weight.
(17) Berkshire Breeze ($7.50)
Disappointing at his last two starts, which followed three consecutive wins.
The form is on the board, and if he shows his best, he should be right in the mix at each-way odds.
(18) Wyclif ($27.00)
Solid runs in defeat his last two but he needs to find a few lengths. We can’t include them all, so he misses out.
(19) Immediacy ($19.00)
Better for two runs this preparation but he needed to show much more last time out in Melbourne.
(20) Strathtay ($41.00)
Looking a touch one-paced at his last two. Not liked here.
(21) Unusual Legacy (Best Bet – $8.50)
Unsure if Kiwi jockey Wiremu Pinn will ride after injuring himself this week, but the horse is a quality type in the making.
50kg is ideal and he looks like a future Group 1 winner, and it could be the Metrop.
(22) Matusalem ($21.00)
Having a solid prep with two wins and it shouldn’t be too far away.
