Mildura racing tips
—
Race 1. (12:40) Mallee Big Screen Maiden (2000m)
#5 – Detoron @ $2.40
Detoron comes off three consecutive second placings and she deserves a long overdue win on Monday.
The five-year-old daughter of Toronado has seven placings from 19 starts, and she won’t get a better chance to breakthrough.
It’s a moderate field and she could take advantage.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 2. (13:10) Mildura & District Real Estate Maiden (1400m)
#5 – Saxon Blood @ $2.90
Saxon Blood ran sixth on debut at Warrnambool and we expect him to improve with added fitness and that experience.
The three-year-old gelding had solid betting support on debut, which is good to see, and getting the inside draw should take him close.
We expect more money to come for him close to start time.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 3. (13:45) Mildura Motor Holdings Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Ravenite @ $1.95
Form is with Ravenite, who looks to cap off three consecutive placings with a win.
The three-year-old son of Hellbent placed at Ballarat, Pakenham, and Mildura, so having experience on the track adds to his appeal.
We’re not surprised by the short odds, so include him in multis.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 4. (14:20) Sunraysia Daily Maiden (1000m)
#9 – Immortal Weapon @ $3.30
Immortal Weapon could give jockey Harry Coffey another win, and he has an excellent book of rides.
The three-year-old didn’t fire at Bendigo last time out when leading, but he has since won a jumpout, which is a good sign.
He gets all favours off the inside draw, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see money come for him late.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 5. (14:55) Melbourne Cup Day in Mildura BM58 (1000m)
#1 – It’s Maui’s Gold @ $4.20
Looking to cap off a tidy effort for second at Swan Hill is It’s Maui’s Gold, who is a two-time winner from 16 starts.
The five-year-old son of Squamosa owns two wins and seven placings from 16 starts, so he rarely has a bad run, and that’s likely to be the case again.
Running on dry tracks is right up his alley.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 6. (15:30) Cup Day Packages on Sale BM58 (2000m)
#1 – Tewkesbury @ $1.80
Consistency and class is with Tewkesbury, who is another runner that doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
The five-year-old is only a one-time winner from 15 starts, but he has 10 placings, including three consecutive second placings.
He carries a big weight, but he should beat this field.
Stake: 4 Units
Race 7. (16:10) Bet365 BM58 (1400m)
#4 – My Truth @ $7.00
Value is with My Truth, who comes off two placings against easier opposition but his confidence levels should be rising.
The son of Proisir is a three-time winner overall, and getting 3kg off his back should be enough to see him run close at this level.
Money has come for him, and it could be worth following.
Stake: 1 Unit
Race 8. (16:50) Mallee Cup November 5 BM58 (1200m)
#1 – Abdication @ $2.10
Money has come for Abdication, who won well fresh up at Echuca before placing at Benalla and Wodonga.
The four-year-old son of Nostradamus was only a short margin behind the winner last start, and he should find this race more to his liking.
With luck from out wide, he should be the one to beat.
Stake: 3 Units
