Monday horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:45) Sky Racing Maiden (1350m)
#2 – Geisel @ $2.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Geisel is a three-year-old colt by Teofilo who looked good running consecutive second placings last preparation.
The Paul Perry-trained runner had plenty of betting support in both runs and that’s the same again for Monday’s race.
He opened at $2.80, so respect the move.
Race 2. (14:20) Tab Maiden Handicap (1350m)
#2 – Royal Ballet @ $2.10 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Royal Ballet finished sixth on debut before doing well to run third at Newcastle last start.
The Kris Lees-trained daughter of Fastnet Rock should appreciate the drop in class and getting an inside barrier helps.
She will likely settle back and finish strongly.
Race 4. (15:30) NZB Karaka Yearling Sales BM58 (2100m)
#4 – Sea Legend @ $2.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Sea Legend comes off a 2.5-length win at Gold Coast and that should be a good form guide.
The four-year-old son of Ocean Park has yet to race at Newcastle, but it’s a track that should suit him well.
After opening at $2.70, there has been steady money for him and that’s always a good sign.
Race 5. (16:10) Hellbent @ Yarraman Park BM66 (1350m)
#8 – Lonely Power @ $3.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Lonely Power scored back-to-back wins to open his career before going two solid races at Newcastle.
The Lees-trained three-year-old struggled last time out on a good track, but with a win and a placing in wet conditions, he looks well placed.
His opening odds of $4.60 were taken and we expect more money to come for him on race day.
Race 2. (14:35) Satts Plant Hire Maiden (1400m)
#1 – Cut ‘em Up – Bet @ Sportsbet
Cody Morgan lines up the four-year-old gelding who owns three placings from six starts, so he has been going close.
The four-year-old gelding had plenty of betting support last time out, and although he settled for fourth, he wasn’t beaten far.
Getting a 2kg claimer in the saddle helps and he should have plenty of betting support again.
Race 4. (15:50) LSS Locksmiths & Security Maiden (1100m)
#6 – Suomenlinna – Bet @ Sportsbet
Soumenlinna is getting close to breaking through for an overdue win after back-to-back placings.
The five-year-old son of Delago Deluxe hit the line nicely in both starts at Orange and running at Wellington shouldn’t do him any harm.
Barrier six is ideal and punters should get each-way odds on race day.
Race 5. (16:30) KFC Wellington and Forbes C1 (1100m)
#11 – Lina’s Choice – Bet @ Sportsbet
Lina’s Choice scored a fresh up win at Dubbo and the four-year-old mare could get back to her best.
The daughter of Great Choice has been primed with a recent trial at Scone and carrying only 53.5kg is ideal.
Barrier 11 shouldn’t be an issue in the wet ground, so put her on top after the lengthy break.
Race 7. (17:50) Wellington Boot BM58 (1000m)
#1 – Our Blue Moon – Bet @ Sportsbet
Our Blue Moon looked the goods when scoring fresh up at Orange by three lengths before running well enough in two subsequent races.
The six-year-old mare by Trusting owns a win and a placing at the distance and 2kg comes off her back, so she should be right in the mix.
We expect her to be fighting out the finish.
