Moonee Valley horse racing tips

Race 1. (19:15) Bill Badger BM64 (1600m)

#5 – Oceanography @ $3.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Maher/Eustace-trained three-year-old colt is coming off a win at Sandown and that form should stack up nicely.

He improved on the good track surface and conditions look ideal for Friday night. The win came over Salto Angel, which looks like a nice type.

Punters get value odds in the opening race of the night.

Race 2. (19:45) Tony Cassidy Maiden (1200m)

#7 – Shelby Cobra @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Mike Moroney lines up the three-year-old gelding that looked good in a recent jumpout at Flemington.

It caught the eye of punters and he has been backed nicely throughout the week. The $130,000 purchase has plenty of scope and the progeny of Toronado are going well.

Drawing barrier two is ideal around this track and we’re expecting a good run.

Race 3. (20:15) Zig Inge Am BM78 (3000m)

#1 – Maserartie Bay @ $3.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Four consecutive wins is on the horizon for Maserartie Bay, which has scored back-to-back wins at Swan Hill.

The son of Artie Schiller now owns five wins from 12 starts and he has excelled over the longer distances. Therefore, 3000m is right up his alley and he should go close on Friday.

Punters are getting each-way odds for the professional winner.

Race 4. (20:45) Andrew Lemon Am BM64 (1200m)

#11 – Ellis Park @ $5 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ellis Park looked the goods when winning on debut at Sandown and although beaten last start, he pulled up lame.

The four-year-old son of Dissident defeated the likes of Holster on debut and with Craig Williams in the saddle on Friday night, he will get another chance to win.

$5 is a fair price from bookmakers.

Race 5. (21:15) Kevin O’Neill BM64 (1200m)

#8 – Monetizing @ $4 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The four-year-old had no luck last start at Sandown but punters should stick with the daughter of Turffontein.

She is a capable mare that won back-to-back races last season before taking on tough opposition at Rosehill.

The experience should have done her plenty of good and having William Pike in the saddle won’t deter punters.

Race 6. (21:45) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge BM64 (955m)

#12 – Smart Design @ $9 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Smart Design is a value runner after he scored a 4.5-length maiden win at Wangaratta last time out.

The Ledger-trained son of Master of Design wasn’t touched in front and he cruised home for an easy victory.

A repeat could be on the cards over the short-course distance.

Race 7. (22:15) David Webb BM64 (2040m)

#4 – Excelman @ $3 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Excelman was disqualified when scoring an easy win two back at Sale, so his form is better than it represents.

The Laming-trained gelding followed up that performance with a second placing at Cranbourne and that came behind the talented Criminal.

Having Damien Oliver in the saddle is ideal and he should go close.

Race 8. (22:45) BNCA Pink Lady BM78 (1600m)

#3 – Sovereign Award @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Sovereign Award demands attention despite running sixth last time out. The five-year-old mare was only 1.7 lengths behind Shandy, and that came against some tough opposition.

It was her first defeat at The Valley from three attempts and she could get back to her best form on Friday.

She carries 61.5kg but it’s not a big weight relative to the rest of the field.

Race 9. (23:15) Ladbrokes Easy Form BM70 (1000m)

#8 – Just Zerene @ $1.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Just Zerene can be tough to follow but the speed is there and she could live up to expectations this time around.

The four-year-old was run down in the Lightning Stakes at Morphettville last start and the 1000m at Moonee Valley looks ideal.

She must find the front but that shouldn’t be difficult with Oliver riding.
