Moonee Valley horse racing tips
Race 1. (17:15) Lockdown Legends Handicap (2040m)
#4 – One More Try @ $2.90 – Bet @ Sportsbet
One More Try could get back to winning form after running sixth at Group 3 level last time out. The six-year-old is struggling to win but the drop in class should be right up her alley.
The daughter of Dane Shadow is a five-time winner that has a placing around The Valley, which bodes well for this race.
$2.90 is a fair price given the size of the field.
Race 2. (17:45) MSC Signs Handicap (2040m)
#6 – Lunar Flare @ $6.50 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Value is with Lunar Flare, which has four wins from 15 starts. She was too good for her opposition at Pakenham two back before running close at Cranbourne.
The daughter of Fiorente won her only start at The Valley and it’s a track that suits her nicely. Drawing barrier three will see her getting a good run throughout and we’re confident of her chances.
Race 3. (18:15) Antler Luggage Handicap (1200m)
#2 – William Thomas @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
William Thomas has an impressive turn-of-foot and although beaten last start, he hit the line with good power.
The former New Zealander is a seven-time winner that has yet to fire at Moonee Valley, but he should be able to sit off the pace and fly home late.
Punters are getting each-way odds and there are no superstars in this field, so he should take advantage.
Race 4. (18:45) Chandler Macleod Gold Star (1500m)
#1 – So Si Bon @ $2.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet
The form of So Si Bon never reads well at first glance but he is a proven winner at the top level. He is over $1.4 million in earnings and despite winning only five from 56 starts, he is a strong chance here.
Facing a field of only seven runners will help and in terms of class, only Iconoclasm comes close.
$2.80 is a fair price for a quality type that keeps giving.
Race 5. (19:15) Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (955m)
#2 – Free of Debt @ $6 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Free of Debt has been respected in the betting and he shows his best form fresh. The four-year-old isn’t the most consistent type, but he is dangerous on his day.
Damien Oliver is a key booking and with bookmakers opening him at $6, it shows the amount of respect they have for his talent.
He could be a runner worth watching in the market.
Race 6. (19:45) Sweeney Estate Agents Handicap (1000m)
#3 – Written Beauty @ $2.05 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Written Beauty enters having won her last two starts and she looks like a nice type in the making.
The Hawkes-trained daughter of Written Tycoon won her maiden by six lengths and Gold Coast and followed that up with a win at Canterbury by two lengths.
She was strong in the run to the line and despite drawing awkwardly, she could show blistering pace and hold them off.
Race 7. (20:15) Seppelt Wines BM84 (1500m)
#7 – Bee Hunter @ $4.20 – Bet @ Sportsbet
Bee Hunter has been going through his gears this campaign and he looks ready to strike.
The John Sadler-trained gelding ran fourth at Caulfield last start behind Windstorm, so that form is tops for this event.
Drawing the inside barrier should be ideal and punters will likely come for him late in the piece.
