Mornington racing tips
—
Race 1. (15:40) Racing Form Maiden (1600m)
#9 – Belle Detelle @ $2.10
Belle Detelle ran second on debut at Seymour when closing in strongly from the back, which is a good form guide.
The three-year-old filly by Zed is bred to enjoy the rise in distance, which is why his opening $2.45 odds have firmed into $2.10.
Take the short odds in the opening race.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 2. (16:15) Senet Gambling Law Experts Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Rhia @ $3.80
Rhia is on debut the Freedman stable and she has looked good winning two recent trials.
The three-year-old daughter of Exceed and Excel won the jumpouts at Cranbourne, and that’s always a good form guide at this level.
Having Craig Williams in the saddle is another positive.
Stake: 2 Units
Race 3. (16:50) Sportsbed Feed 0MW (1200m)
#4 – Written Bligh @ $2.30
Coming off four consecutive placings is Written Bligh, who owns two wins and seven placings from 11 starts.
That’s a fantastic record for a talented mare in the making, and although small fields can trip up favourites, she looks safe.
She gets the inside draw and 3kg off her back to help, so take the shorts.
Stake: 5 Units
Race 4. (17:25) The Big Screen Company Handicap (1500m)
#4 – Cash Converter @ $5.50
Cash Converter looked good winning fresh up at Horsham before rattling off three placings from his last four starts.
The four-year-old son of Headwater ran second at Cranbourne last time out and something similar to that should be good enough.
Punters should snap up the each-way odds available from bookmakers.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 5. (18:00) More Places BM64 (2000m)
#9 – Tierra @ $4.80
Tierra didn’t fire on debut over 1421m, but rising in distance to 1600m resulted in a win at Stony Creek.
The three-year-old daughter of Telperion should love the rise in distance here and she showed excellent progression when winning by 3.3 lengths.
We thought she would be favourite, so take the each-way odds.
Stake: 3 Units
Race 6. (18:30) Hayasugi Forever a Shining Diamond BM64 (1200m)
#4 – Miss Winslet @ $7.50
Miss Winslet is a past winner fresh up and she could hit the ground running this preparation.
The daughter of Shamus Award didn’t fire at her most recent start at Mornington, but she’s much better than that.
Getting 2kg off her back is ideal and the each-way odds are worth taking.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Race 7. (19:00) Thoroughbred Club of Australia BM64 (1000m)
#9 – Diamond Firetail @ $4.20
Diamond Firetail won fresh up at Wyong last preparation and having form in New South Wales stacks up nicely.
She finished second at Sandown two back before getting tired at The Valley, but this is an easier race and she gets every chance with Williams riding.
Take the odds before money comes for her on race day.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Race 8. (19:30) Same Race Multi BM74 (1600m)
#2 – Ziryab @ $2.40
Ziryab comes off a win at Caulfield by 1.8 lengths when beating One Long Day, who has since won.
The form stacks up nicely for this level of racing and we expect the former European to rise through the grades nicely this season.
Take the odds before more money comes for him.
Stake: 3.5 Units
