Morphettville horse racing tips
Race 1. (13:41) Schweppes C1 Handicap (1550m)
#3 – Cleary Adonis @ $1.65 – Bet Now
Punters have taken the shorts around this runner and he should be able to finally break maiden grades.
The John Hyam-trained gelding has placed at his last four runs and he’s going to get every chance from an inside barrier.
$1.65 is short for a runner which hasn’t won a race, but he should be pushing many of these close.
Race 2. (14:16) Longbottom’s 65th Birthday (1400m)
#6 – Crockett @ $3.70 – Bet Now
Team McEvoy lines up the four-year-old gelding which was good enough to win back-to-back races this season.
The son of All American wasn’t all that far away when third at Morphettville last start and that should be a good form guide.
Should get every chance to impress with only 54kg on the back and punters are getting good enough each-way odds to take.
Race 3. (14:51) Dominant Handicap (1000m)
#5 – Starvirgo @ $3.10 – Bet Now
Starvirgo hasn’t been able to win from two starts this campaign but he has been close.
The Anthony Freedman-trained four-year-old finished fourth at Moonee Valley last time out and that’s going to be a good form guide for this.
He is a son of Zoustar which has been good enough to finish in the money in 11 of his 19 starts. That’s good enough form to go close against the small field.
Race 4. (15:31) Holdfast Insurance BM64 (1000m)
#5 – Taken Off @ $3 – Bet Now
Phillip Stokes lines up the three-year-old gelding which looked the goods when winning on debut at Morphettville.
The son of Toorak Toff then finished only 1.2 lengths behind the winner last start and something similar would see him winning this.
Drawing barrier three is ideal and carrying 55.5kg is going to give him every chance. Should be right in the thick of the action.
Race 5. (16:11) AAMI BM75 (1250m)
#4 – Enough Swagger @ $1.85 – Bet Now
Enough Swagger scored a good win at short odds last start and punters will have to muscle up and take the shorts again.
The four-year-old mare is a four-time winner from 12 starts and although she rises up in class, she gets in with only 54.5kg.
Faces only a small field here and that’s only going to help her chances.
Race 6. (16:51) Grantham’s 21st Bday BM70 (1950m)
#2 – Star Status @ $2.35 – Bet Now
The four-year-old gelding is only a two-win type but he should have won more races by now.
He’s a consistent type for the MacDonald/Gluyas team which is coming off a solid performance at Morphettville.
Yet to run worse than fourth from four runs this campaign and punters have launched into the opening price.
Looks every chance to take this out.
Race 7. (17:31) Tab BM64 (1400m)
#10 – The Pugilist @ $3.90 – Bet Now
Team McEvoy lines up the three-year-old which is taking on some tough company, but he has good upside.
The son of Fighting Sun is a winner of one from seven starts, but he also boasts four minor placings.
It’s tough to overlook his maiden win two starts back and he hit the line nicely for sixth at Sandown against a strong field last time out.
Likely to attract plenty of attention come race day.
Race 8. (18:10) Twilight Races BM70 (1400m)
#9 – Belzella @ $3 – Bet Now
Belzella is a four-year-old mare which has won two of her eight starts and should prove tough to beat here.
The McEvoy-trained runner is coming off a win where she scored by 3.5 lengths and anything close to that is good enough here.
She has remained steady in the betting throughout the week and although drawing barrier 10 is tough, she gets in with a light weight which will help.
