It’s a new year and what a way to see it in.
Randwick and Flemington both host high-quality thoroughbred meetings and we have done the form to find the best value tips across the day.
There’s some great racing on offer this Monday and we’re excited to see what stunning racing action 2018 has to offer.
Randwick free tips & form
Race 1. (13:00) Happy New Year Handicap (1800m)
#6 – Savacool @ $4 – BET NOW
Chris Waller lines up talented filly Savacool, which has finished in the first two in three runs to date.
The daughter of Savabeel won on debut at Newcastle by a length before running second at Canterbury on two occasions.
Her most recent placing came behind the talented Seaway, which looks destined for higher success and that form should stack up well here.
The even field means punters will get good odds for the current favourite.
Race 3. (14:10) Book Summer Hospitality Maiden (1400m)
#12 – Stellar Victoria @ $3.80 – BET NOW
Stellar Victoria has been running good races without winning, but she has a great chance to score the overdue win here.
David Payne lines up the three-year-old Foxwedge filly which has placed in six of her eight starts and that consistency will get rewarded soon.
Her most recent placing came at Canterbury behind Wooshka in December and a repeat of that effort should take her close against this opposition.
Race 4. (14:45) Tattersalls Club Handicap (1200m)
#6 – Pirapala @ $3.10 – BET NOW
There are no real classy types in this race except for Pirapala and the odds on offer are generous.
The Lindsay Park-trained runner is a winner of two from seven starts and she has always run well against good opposition, including her last start win at Moonee Valley.
She has been exposed to form much stronger than her opposition here and it’s not surprise to see her odds shorten throughout the week.
$3.60 was on offer earlier, but $3.10 is still a great price.
Race 6. (16:00) Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m)
#2 – Broadside @ $2.35 – BET NOW
There were plenty of disappointed punters with Broadside last start, but stick with the six-year-old gelding.
Vallas was too good for the Waller-trained runner on that occasion and the two meet again here, but Broadside gets a 2kg weight advantage this time around.
After an early drift in the market she has steadied and come in a touch to $2.35 after opening at $2.40. We wouldn’t be surprised to see more positive market movement come Monday.
Race 7. (16:40) Tab Handicap (1000m)
#8 – Florid to place @ $2.50 – BET NOW
James Cummings lines up Florid which did well to run third when fresh up at Hawkesbury.
The Commands three-year-old rarely runs a bad race as his record suggests and there was plenty to like about his win at Wyong earlier this year.
Since then he has finished within a length of the winner on two occasions and he’s currently unbeaten from two second-up starts.
That reads well and we’ll take the value on offer for a top three position.
Race 8. (17:20) Australian Turf Club R74 (1400m)
#3 – Smartedge @ $3.30 – BET NOW
Smartedge broke through for his first win at Warwick Farm in August and that paved the way for another last time out.
The Snowden-trained three-year-old scored by a half-length at Hawkesbury and the win was never in doubt last start at Kembla Grange.
This is a rise in class, but the confidence is right up and he only needs to cope with the wide draw to put a few lengths on this opposition.

Race 2. (13:50) Straight Draw R78 (1400m)
#2 – Wise Hero @ $4 – BET NOW
We were confident that Wise Hero would win last start, but we had to settle for a narrow placing at Moonee Valley.
The Mick Price-trained gelding finished second by a nose, but take nothing away from the performance as he still showed plenty of fight.
From seven career starts he has won three and finished second in three more, which is a great record and bookmakers are once again offering great odds.
Giving Creativity weight is tough, but he looks a top each way chance.
Race 4. (15:00) Summer Racing R70 (2000m)
#4 – Last Week @ $3.50 – BET NOW
The money has come strongly for Last Week, as it did last start when winning at Moonee Valley.
Darren Weir lines up the four-year-old which had run consecutive second placings before breaking through last start and punters have regained their confidence in the gelding.
His opening odds have dropped and he’s a strong chance to produce back-to-back wins this Monday.
Race 6. (16:20) Standish Handicap (1200m)
#11 – Toy Boy @ $5 – BET NOW
This is a hot field, but Toy Boy brings in winning form and a light weight.
The Greg Eurell-trained four-year-old scored a win at Pakenham in October before returning from a spell to score by 1.3 lengths at Mornington.
He carried big weights when winning both races and dropping down to 54kg is going to be a big bonus here.
The inside draw is another positive and he should be there in the finish.
Race 7. (17:00) Bagot Handicap (2800m)
#6 – Etah James @ $4.40 – BET NOW
Winning has been the norm for Etah James this preparation, winning four of her five starts.
The in-form Matt Cumani lines up the daughter of Raise the Flag which has certainly raised her form and it couldn’t have been any easier last start.
She won by 1.8 lengths at Caulfield and the win indicated that she will enjoy running at Flemington for the first time.
There’s a lack of winning form in this race and she could take advantage.
Race 8. (17:35) Nouvelle Star (1400m)
#13 – So Far Sokool @ $3.90 – BET NOW
We tipped the former New Zealand runner when she broke through for her first Australian victory last start and we’re not going to jump off her back now.
The narrow win was more impressive than it would read and she really needed to dig in late to win the race.
There’s more scope to this field, but she’s on the way up and this is just another step on the ladder.
