Race 1. (10:45) Harcourts for Hospice Maiden (1600m)
#8 – Kaimai Queen @ $3 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Kaimai Queen comes off four consecutive placings and it’s only a matter of time before she breaks her maiden status.
The five-year-old ran second at Ruakaka last start and the money has come for her again, which isn’t surprising.
With 2kg coming off her back, she doesn’t get a better chance.
Race 2. (11:20) Northland Business Systems Maiden (1200m)
#7 – Super Daisy @ $4.80 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Super Daisy spelled after running second at Pukekohe last start and that’s a good betting guide.
The Rogers-trained four-year-old was a half-length behind Mister Roquette and drawing barrier two is ideal for Saturday.
We’re happy with the each-way odds available.
Race 3. (11:55) Hirepool Ruakaka Cup (2200m)
#3 – Hit the Road Jack @ $3.50 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Hit the Road Jack is getting close to posting another win after consecutive second placings at Te Rapa.
The Phelan-trained son of Jakkalberry drops in weight to 52.5kg and that’s a very light weight for a proven open-class performer.
The odds are worth snapping up.
Race 4. (12:29) Northland Breeders Stakes (1200m)
#5 – Lickety Split @ $3.80 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Speed is with Lickety Split, who won her first two starts at Ellerslie against some smart types.
The three-year-old daughter of Turn Me Loose didn’t fire at Awapuni last start but she didn’t enjoy running the other way around.
Carrying 55kg is ideal and we’re happy with the odds available.
Race 5. (13:04) NZB Pearl Series BM75 (1600m)
#2 – Jakkalnuts @ $3.60 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Jakkalnuts is already a two-time winner this preparation and we fancy her chances of winning again.
The five-year-old mare won at Hastings two back before finishing third at New Plymouth, but the deep track didn’t suit.
Getting on a better surface should help and the apprentice claim is a bonus.
Race 6. (13:39) Champion Sword of State BM65 (1300m)
#7 – Silverina @ $4 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Silverina was too good for them on this track last start and we’re backing her to win again.
The four-year-old scored by just under a length and getting 4kg off her back puts her right into contention.
Barrier three is ideal and she can handle the rise in class at each-way odds.
Race 7. (14:14) Noel Reed Memorial Handicap (1400m)
#2 – Brando @ $3.30 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Class is with Brando, who owns five wins and six placings from 15 starts, which is a handy record.
The Walker-trained five-year-old has yet to race at Ruakaka, but it’s a track that should suit and the distance is ideal.
Having Opie Bosson in the saddle is another bonus.
Race 8. (14:54) Fireco BM65 (1600m)
#5 – Rising Dream @ $8.50 – Bet @ Ladbrokes
Rising Dream wasn’t far away when third at Ruakaka last start and it won’t take much improvement to win here.
The Bishara-trained son of Sweynesse is much shorter in the betting than the $20 he paid last start, so there has been good betting support.
Include him in selection at the generous odds.
