Kumara racing tips

Race 1. (10:10) Entain/NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden (1150m)

#5 - Steezy @ $2.40

Steezy almost broke maidens last time out when running second at Kurow, and that is a good form guide for racing at Kumara.

He shouldn’t take long to win a race, especially at the West Coast circuit, and getting the inside draw makes him even harder to beat.

After opening at $3.50, money has come strongly for him.

Race 2. (10:45) Joan Meates Memorial Maiden (1150m)

#6 - Good Craic @ $4.50

We have backed Good Craic numerous times when she was with Lisa Latta, but the stable and venue change could help.

He typically looms to win on the turn before coming to the end of her run, but racing on the West Coast is easier than what she has been facing.

Race 3. (11:19) Phoenix Minerals BM80 (1150m)

#1 - Illicit Dreams @ $3.40

$3.40 is a good price for a runner with the record of Illicit Dreams, who owns five wins and 16 placings throughout her career.

The five-year-old mare by Vancouver comes off a second placing at Reefton on Wednesday, and being on the quick back up won’t worry her.

She gets 3kg off her back to help with the big weight.

Race 4. (11:53) McMullan ITM BM65 (1150m)

#9 - Dracarys @ $8.00

Dracarys unleashed fire on the field to win at Kurow, and she could quickly rise through the ranks with another win.

The five-year-old mare was always going to need time to mature based on her breeding, and we thought she would be paying shorter odds than $8.

Include her in picks as a value bet.

Wanganui racing tips

Race 1. (10:25) Wanganui Function Centre Maiden (1340m)

#12 - Petite Rocher @ $3.20

Petite Rocher has a good chance of winning on debut for Te Akau, and her trial win at Avondale is excellent form for racing at Wanganui.

The three-year-old filly by Grunt has had seven trials to prepare, so she has needed some work, but carrying only 52kg makes her tough to beat.

Money has come, which is always a good sign.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 2. (11:00) Wanganui-Taranaki Racehorse Owners Handicap (1340m)

#3 - Sindee @ $2.15

Sindee doesn’t know how to run a bad race after posting four wins and five placings from 11 starts, and the small field suits.

The Allan Sharrock-trained mare was beaten by 2.8 lengths last start, but that came at Te Rapa, and she is better suited to the Central Districts.

$2.15 is a better price than we expected, so take the value.

Race 3. (11:35) La Nuova Dry Cleaners 3YO (1200m)

#1 - Waka @ $3.70

Waka was too speedy when winning on debut at New Plymouth, scoring by 2.8 lengths.

The three-year-old had solid betting support on that occasion, and although facing a harder field here, the money has come again.

Having Kelly Myers riding helps, so include him in win bets.

Race 4. (14:10) Terry Brothers BM75 (1200m)

#7 - Rabega @ $6.00

Rabega loves running at Wanganui with three starts for two wins and a second placing, which is good enough form for this race.

The five-year-old son of Pariah comes off a win at the track by a half-length, and a repeat of that should be good enough to take him close.

Wiremu Pinn is having a good spell, so back him with confidence.
