Newcastle racing tips

Race 1. (14:10) Sharp Office C1 (2100m)

#2 – So You Ready @ $4.20

So You Ready is ready to win a race this prep after finishing second at Taree last time out, which is a good form guide.

The four-year-old son of So You Think runs his best races with some moisture in the surface, so conditions should be ideal.

We expect him to run well in the opener.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 2. (14:45) The Adviser Collection Maiden (1350m)

#1 – Artie’s Magic @ $2.25

We expect late money to come for Artie’s Magic, who could start at around $1.90.

The Todd Howlett-trained gelding has improved his position with every start, and after placing at Taree last start, a win is on the horizon.

Barrier two with Aaron Bullock riding gives him every chance to win.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 3. (15:20) Davali Thoroughbreds Maiden (1150m)

#8 – Baquiera @ $5.00

Punters get each-way odds for Baquiera, who could be better than what her trials suggest.

The three-year-old filly by Ole Kirk is bred to show early speed, and her trials at Rosehill came against city-class types.

This is easier, so expect a big effort.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 4. (15:55) Dailey Family Funerals C1 (1200m)

#6 – Josephine @ $5.50

Each-way value is with Josephine, who showed speed when winning on debut at Gunnedah before placing at Scone last start.

Form at Scone should bode well for racing at Newcastle, and the filly by Headwater won’t take long to win another race.

Barrier two is ideal, so she should get a good run in transit.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (16:30) New Zealand Bloodstock BM58 (1150m)

#4 – Trounce @ $3.10

Strong betting moves have come for Trounce, who won three back at Taree before adding two placings.

The four-year-old mare by I Am Invincible has been right around the mark throughout her career, and another win looms.

After opening at $4.60, she has been steadily backed to win.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 6. (17:10) Horsepower BM58 (1150m)

#6 – Piccaderro @ $2.90

Jason Deamer lines up Piccaderro, who was too strong for a handy field at Port Macquarie last time out.

The four-year-old son of Pierro may have taken nine wins to break through for a maiden win, but she can rise through the grades now.

It’s another good ride for Bullock, who could have a good day.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 7. (17:50) The Prince of Merewether BM66 (1350m)

#7 – Tickle Me Pink @ $4.80

Punters get each-way odds for Tickle Me Pink, who scored back-to-back wins last preparation.

The four-year-old mare by Vancouver opened her account this prep with a sixth at Port Macquarie, and improvement is expected.

We recommend taking the each-way odds before they shorten.

Stake: 1 Unit
