Newcastle racing tips

Race 1. (14:10) Dailey Family Funerals C1 (2200m)

#3 – Golden Smile @ $2.80

Money has come for Golden Smile, who didn’t fire last time out at Canterbury, but this is a drop in class.

The six-year-old mare by Sea the Stars owns a win and seven placings from 14 starts, including two placings from as many starts at Newcastle.

He’s worth including in multis at the current price.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 2. (14:45) The Adviser Collection Maiden (1350m)

#10 – Aperitas @ $6.00

Michael Freedman lines up Aperitas, who showed enough speed in two runs earlier this preparation.

The three-year-old filly by Exceed and Excel showed good trial form before her debut, including a win at Randwick.

It’s good enough form for this race, so put her on top.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 3. (15:20) Sharp Office Maiden (1200m)

#2 – Good’n’you @ $1.90

Short odds are available for Good’n’you, who ran third at Beaumont as the $1.95 favourite, and punters should stick with it.

The three-year-old son of Graff opened at $2.50 before shortening into firm favouritism, and more money could come for him.

Getting the inside draw is enough to take him close.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 4. (15:55) New Zealand Bloodstock Maiden (1150m)

#8 – Flying Truffles @ $3.60

Looking to make an early impression is Flying Truffles, who wasn’t asked for much in a trial at Beaumont.

The three-year-old filly by Flying Artie is bred to show something early, and that’s reflected in betting markets, which is a good sign.

Look for late betting moves.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (16:30) New Era Technology BM66 (1150m)

#2 – Ensign Parker @ $5.00

Each-way value is with Ensign Parker, who runs his best races at Newcastle. He owns two wins and a placing from three starts here, so the stats stand out.

The five-year-old son of Merchant Navy is a four-time winner overall, and getting 3kg off his back is enough to take him close.

It’s an even betting field, so snap up the value.

Stake: 1.5 Units

Race 6. (17:10) A-Plus Contracting & Polywelding C2 (1200m)

#2 – Herman Said @ $3.40

Gunning for consecutive wins is Herman Said, who gripped on for a close win last time out at Beaumont.

The three-year-old son of Exceedance owns two wins and three placings from six starts, and getting 4kg off his back is ideal.

His odds have drifted, but he’s worth backing.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 7. (17:50) The Prince of Merewether BM58 (1300m)

#4 – Cifonelli @ $4.80

Punters get value odds for Cifonelli, who is fitter for two runs back from a spell, including a fourth at Orange last time out.

The four-year-old showed enough speed last campaign when scoring a win and a placing, and something close to that is good enough.

He opened at $7.50, so the money has come.

Stake: 1 Unit
