Newcastle horse racing tips

Race 1. (13:05) Sage Painting Max Lees Classic (900m)

#8 – Collier Bay – Bet @ Sportsbet

Collier Bay is on debut for Anthony Cummings after finishing close up for fourth at the trials.

The daughter of Capitalist is bred to show early speed and although there are unknowns in this race, she has upside.

Watch the market for any indication.

Race 2. (13:40) Tab Highway C3 Handicap (1300m)

#13 – Northern Lights – Bet @ Sportsbet

Northern Lights is a three-time winner making a fresh start on Saturday. She goes best early in her preparation and punters should be confident.

Jockey Jason Collett takes the ride from barrier five and he should position the six-year-old into a good spot.

In an even contest, it could be Northern Lights who shines brightest.

Race 3. (14:15) Senpos Point of Sale BM88 (1850m)

#7 – Vadiyann @ $2.30 – Bet @ Sportsbet

The European imports are cruising this season and Vadiyann looks to have a bright future with the Waterhouse/Bott stable.

He is a four-time winner from six starts and he has already scored two trial wins to prepare for this race.

The most recent came by 3.5 lengths at Randwick and there is plenty to like about this improving stayer.

Race 4. (14:50) Guardian Safety Solutions BM72 (1200m)

#1 – Superium – Bet @ Sportsbet

Superium gets one more chance to impress after a string of winless runs. The Joe Pride-trained gelding is a three-time winner from 14 starts and a change in environment could help.

He has yet to race at Newcastle but the long straight is ideal and rising to 1200m is another positive.

Expect each-way odds from bookmakers.

Race 5. (15:25) Hungerford Hill BM78 (1600m)

#6 – Occupy – Bet @ Sportsbet

Occupy is coming off back-to-back third placings and the latest came at Newcastle. He finished only three lengths behind Unamerican, and that form looks good for this.

The son of Declaration of War owns four wins and four placings, so he has enough ability to give them something to worry about.

He is trained on the track and getting the inside draw could take him close.

Race 6. (16:05) NZ Bloodstock NJC Spring Stakes (1600m)

#2 – Ellsberg @ $4.80 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Ellsberg finished off stylishly to run second behind Enchanted Heart at Rosehill and there is little wrong with that form.

The three-year-old colt was an impressive winner on debut at Warwick Farm and although facing a tough field, he has upside.

Punters are value odds and they are worth taking.

Race 8. (17:25) Bass Floor BM78 (1400m)

#1 – Enchanted Heart @ $4.40 – Bet @ Sportsbet

Enchanted Heart dug deep to score at Rosehill and we’re not jumping off her back. She came along the inside of runners to win and the big weight won’t be an issue.

She is trained on this track by Kris Lees and with six wins from 14 starts under her belt, punters get a value price.

Off the inside draw, we expect her to be close to the pace.

Race 9. (18:00) Hunter Valley Premier Meats BM88 (1300m)

#14 – Two Big Fari – Bet @ Sportsbet

The Howlett-trained gelding faces a tough field but he hasn’t done much wrong throughout his career.

He is a six-time winner from 10 starts that did well to run fifth when fresh up. That run will give him some added fitness and he could finish best.

From barrier three, he should be able to get a dream run in transit.
