Money has come for Seeiaye on debut after winning a trial at Rosehill, and that’s usually good form for this level of racing.
The Peter Snowden-trained colt by Russian Revolution is bred for speed, and the trial win came by 1.8 lengths, so it was impressive.
We expect a tidy debut effort in a tough race.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Scratched from racing at Rosehill on Wednesday, Strawberry Impact targets a good race, and he should be tough to beat.
He ran second on Golden Eagle Day, and we like the way the four-year-old battled all the way to the line. That’s a good attribute to have, hence the shortening odds.
We expect a lot of multi to run through him early in the day.
Stake: 2.5 Units
Punters get value odds for Mount Bona, who ran well for second at Muswellbrook last start, which could be a good form guide.
The four-year-old mare went close in a tight finish, and getting into this race with only 54.5kg on her back makes her a winning hope.
Zac Lloyd riding helps, so include for value.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Seeking three consecutive wins is Maid of Moolah, who showed good professionalism when winning by a length at Hawkesbury.
She was only a $1.90 chance on that occasion, so although she meets a harder field, punters get odds worth snapping up.
She is another lightweight runner at 54kg, who should go close.
Stake: 2 Units
Rotagilla beat home Strawberry Impact last start, so that could be a good form guide throughout the day at Newcastle.
The four-year-old son of All Too Hard grinded home to win by 2.3 length, and he’ll only be better for the fitness under his belt.
Tim Clark is in the saddle, so expect a positive ride.
Stake: 1.5 Units
We are going to the well again with Pocketing, who keeps pocketing punters’ cash.
The Freedman-trained gelding showed excellent form during the autumn, and if he shows that same form on Saturday, the four-time winner could add another to his record.
Punters get $10 odds, and the risk is worth the reward.
Stake: 1 Unit
It comes as no surprise to see Grand Prairie as the favourite, despite running ninth at Flemington last time out.
The three-year-old colt by Written Tycoon won a good race at Rosehill three starts back, which should be the best form guide for this race.
Barrier two is ideal, so take the odds before they firm.
Stake: 3 Units
Ostraka has been specked at odds and we’re happy to back it. The five-year-old is better than what he has been showing, so he gets another chance.
The son of Pariah owns five wins and six placings from 21 starts, and although he’s yet to run at Newcastle, he should appreciate it.
He’s an on-pace runner, which is suitable for racing here.
Stake: 1.5 Units
Looking to cause a big upset is Scarlet Oak, who showed real ability as a three-year-old before going off the boil a touch.
The five-year-old is fitter for having three runs under her belt this prep, and we believe Chris Waller has her ready for a big run.
She gets in light with 53kg, so have something on her.
Stake: 1 Unit
Brave One owns three wins and three placings from eight starts, including a tough second placing at Randwick last time out.
The Hawkes-trained gelding will only be better for the run under his belt, and getting into this race with 54kg is a bonus.
That’s enough to take him close in a tough race.
Stake: 1.5 Units
