Northerly Stakes Form Guide & Tips
(1) Western Empire (Best Roughie – $10.00)
He ran a big effort to finish second last start, which is a race where top-weighted runners don’t often perform well.
It’s an excellent guide for the Northerly Stakes, and punters get value odds for the toppie.
(2) Osipenko ($34.00)
A nice winner two back but he didn’t offer much last time out. Not consistent enough for our liking, and there has been no early betting support.
(3) Watch Me Rock ($8.50)
A lovely type that had the perfect trip in transit last time out. He would have been in our top picks had he not drawn barrier 16, which makes it tough.
However, we’re still including him in trifecta and first four picks, as he could settle handy and show off his class.
(4) Apulia ($21.00)
Lovely form this preparation with two wins. Could be the underrated runner in the field, and punters get value odds.
He’s worth including, and he only needs to be within a couple of lengths at the top of the straigh to have a chance.
(5) Hemlock Stone ($101.00)
Big odds available and rightfully so. His form has tapered off this season.
(6) Diamond Scene ($21.00)
Nothing wrong with his fourth behind Watch Me Rock, but he’ll need to improve to turn around that result.
He is good enough to go close, but a wide barrier doesn’t help his chances.
(7) Sentimental Hero ($51.00)
Solid enough form this prep but it hasn’t come at this level. We can’t have him in an elite Group 1 field.
(8) Zipaway ($81.00)
Yet to fire a shot this time in, and we can’t see that changing on Saturday. He’s looking for something easier.
(9) Ginger Baker ($101.00)
Didn’t fire a shot last start, hence the big odds. Put a line through his chances.
(10) In Good Order ($67.00)
Only a one-time winner at Ascot, and he’s another runner who would need to find a few lengths just to get close to them.
(11) Cosmic Crusader (Best Each Way – $6.00)
Missed out on a run in the Railway Stakes, but his effort on the undercard was excellent. He ran a quick time, and he should be tough to beat from the barrier.
Take the each-way odds and include him in all bets.
(12) Depth of Character ($19.00)
We have given him more than enough chances, but not this time. We would want odds around $30 to entertain him.
(13) Vivy Air ($15.00)
A big winner in the Five Diamonds, but she found the rail and sprinted late. Finding the rail from barrier 12 could prove tricky, so we’re leaving her out this time.
(14) Admiration Express ($61.00)
Yet to fire in three attempts this preparation, and that’s unlikely to change.
(15) King of Light (Best Bet – $2.20)
A booming winner last time out when coming from off the pace to pick up the leader with ease.
This class is new for him, but he’s an exciting three-year-old, and down in the weights at 52kg makes him tough to beat.
$2.20 is short enough, but he’s the top pick.
(16) Pure Excess ($18.00)
A good winner last start but this is a level above that. Slightly shorter in the betting than expected.
(17) Bonjoy ($41.00)
She has been running well, including last week when fourth, but she wants something easier.
