It’s Ballarat Cup Day this Saturday where some of the best second-rate stayers do battle.
The full field is packed with capable types and with a 10-race card at Ballarat, coupled with a nine-race meeting at Rosehill, the action this Saturday is shaping up to be good for punters.
We have our best bets across both meetings this Saturday.
Ballarat free tips & form
Race 2. (12:55) Global Turf BM70 (1100m)
#6 – I Am Someone @ 2.90 – BET NOW
Two-time winner which ran well for third at Moonee Valley last start and that form should stack up nicely at this level.
He’s a four-year-old gelding which has a placing behind Nature Strip at Flemington on his record and he has experience on this track with a placing second-up.
$2.90 is on the short end of the value scale but he should be going close.
Race 4. (14:05) Magic Millions Clockwise Classic (1000m)
#10 – Not A Royal Doubt @ $3.50 – BET NOW
The Clockwise Classic hasn’t been a great form race in previous years but Not A Royal Doubt could change that trend.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained two-year-old scored a two-length trial win at Randwick in preparation for this and the level of opposition isn’t overly fancied.
Gai Waterhouse has a good record in this race and $3.50 is a fair price.
Race 5. (14:40) Stockade Stakes (1400m)
#1 – Enbihaar @ $2.35 – BET NOW
Any form behind Ringerdingding this season is going to stack up nicely and her most recent effort for fourth was a good guide here.
The Lindsay Park-trained filly finished within a length of Ringerdingding in the Springtime Stakes at Flemington and her form prior also included handy runs behind Sunlight and Meryl.
That’s strong form and she deserves a winning turn with some luck from out wide.
Race 7. (16:00) The Haymarket Ballarat BM84 (1400m)
#8 – Haunted @ $4.80 – BET NOW
Punters should always be weary of the spring carnival runners staying on to run at Ballarat but Haunted maps well for this race and deserves a change in luck.
He was unlucky when running third at Moe two back before running third behind Fifty Stars at Flemington on Cup Day. The track didn’t play into his hands on that occasion but he battled on well against a much stronger field than this.
56.5kg helps and the each way odds are appealing.
Race 8. (16:40) Ballarat Cup (2200m)
#3 – Another Coldie @ $6 – BET NOW
Three wins from his last four starts, including a win in the Kyneton Cup and that form should stand up nicely in this.
The five-year-old son of Snitzel has scored his last two wins by a combined margin of 5.5 lengths and getting the inside draw will allow him to settle well and find his turn-of-foot in the straight.
$6 on offer is a good price from bookmakers and it’s worth taking.
Rosehill free tips and form
Race 1. (12:35) Golden Gift (1100m)
#4 – Spaceboy @ $3.20 – BET NOW
Couldn’t have been more impressive when winning a trial by six lengths and although trial form can be suspect, the money coming for the colt is a positive.
He’s bred by Deep Field, which should result in early speed and the betting move from $3.40 to $3.20 is a good early indication.
Should prove tough to beat in an exciting field.
Race 3. (13:50) Summer Hospitality BM88 (1200m)
#4 – Sexy Eyes @ $4.20 – BET NOW
Has been a big drifter from $3.40 to $4.20 which is surprising considering the form she’s currently in.
The Chris Waller-trained mare has rattled off consecutive wins this campaign and has looked impressive in doing so. She scored by 3.3 lengths two starts back before winning again at Rosehill last start.
That’s top form for this and despite the betting drift, we’ll confidently back her in.
Race 4. (14:25) 2019 Membership BM88 (1800m)
#2 – Sky Boy @ $3.20 – BET NOW
Fought hard to the line when scoring an expected win last start and he’s seemingly going places this campaign.
The Cummings-trained four-year-old has now won five of his 10 career starts and he has only improved with over more distance. The drop back to 1800m here is a concern but he has handled shorter distances with ease in the past.
Nice odds on offer for a talented stayer in the making.
Race 5. (15:00) ATC Tipping Competition BM88 (1300m)
#4 – Cradle Mountain @ $2.35 – BET NOW
His return to the track was impressive last time out at Rosehill and punters should be expecting another top effort from the five-year-old.
The five-time winner was 2.3-length winner after six months off the track and he’s only going to improve with more fitness under the belt.
Kerrin McEvoy takes over the riding from Jason Collett and that’s not a negative.
Race 9. (17:40) Theraces BM78 (1500m)
#12 – Campari @ $3.70 – BET NOW
The New Zealand mare has made a good start to her Australian campaign with two wins and a close-up fourth.
Trained by Stephen Marsh, the four-year-old by O’Reilly scored a 1.3-length win on Cup Day last start and that form should stack up nicely for this.
Carrying only 54.5kg with James McDonald in the saddle helps and she has a nice chance to win the last.
