Oakleigh Plate Form Guide & Tips
(1) Hedged ($15.00)
A capable sprinter on his day, but he could find a few of these too strong. A lack of betting support is a worry.
(2) Jedibeel ($23.00)
A surprise selection in The Everest, and he ran accordingly. Tough to see him getting back to his best, hence the odds.
(3) Tropicus (Best Each Way – $7.50)
A proven fresh up winner, and he could hit the ground running. Punters get each-way odds, and with Craig Williams riding, he should get a good run from a tricky barrier.
Being a three-time winner at Caulfield is a bonus, as it can be a horses-for-courses track.
(4) Way to the Stars ($26.00)
He comes off a win at Caulfield over Oak Hill. We can’t see him repeating that effort at Group 1 level, so we’re happy to leave him out.
Barrier 14 could make it too tough for him in the early stages.
(5) Oak Hill ($19.00)
He owns two wins and two placings at Caulfield, including a good win last time out. He needs to find a length to figure in the finish, but he could settle back and finish strongly.
Worth including in first four picks at the odds.
(6) She’s Bulletproof ($16.00)
She has a good record in this race, and she could sneak under the radar. Consistency is tough to come by, but at $16, we’re taking the risk and including her in picks.
(7) Bridal Waltz ($13.00)
A consistent type but she’s unders at the current odds. We priced her at $20, and because of that, we’re not including her in our Oakleigh Plate tips.
(8) Persian Spirit ($15.00)
He’s enjoying a successful season, but this might be a level too high for him. We would prefer to see him down the Flemington straight, where he shows his best.
(9) Spywire ($27.00)
Not the easiest runner to follow, but his form has improved this season with two wins. As the odds reflect, this could be too tough.
(10) Geegees Mistruth (Best Roughie – $10.00)
She’s looking to cap off three consecutive placings with a win. She doesn’t always get the best of luck, but she possesses a powerful finish.
We’re happy to keep backing her until she scores a big win.
(11) Don’t Hope Do ($20.00)
He doesn’t know how to run a bad race, but we don’t think he’s Group 1 ready. Happy to leave him out at the odds.
(12) De Bergerac ($23.00)
He’s another runner we prefer to back down the Flemington straight. Having his first start at Caulfield, which presents a problem.
(13) Gallant Son ($9.00)
There has been solid betting support following a win at Caulfield. Makes a steep rise in class, but he gets in with 52kg.
That’s enough to see him land on the speed and give a good kick.
(14) Point Barrow (Best Bet – $3.10)
Four wins from six starts, and she could be a filly to watch in the autumn. Her win at Flemington last start was excellent, and she’s unbeaten in two starts over the distance.
She also has form at Caulfield, so we’re struggling to find any negatives with only 50kg on her back.
