October 20, 2018 – Saturday Horse Racing Tips for Caulfield & Randwick

It’s Caulfield Cup day this Saturday and we have free tips, form and odds for the best races on the Melbourne card.

We also have our best bets for the Randwick card, which is being threatened by bad weather but is scheduled to go ahead as planned.

It will be another great day of racing as the spring carnival hits top gear.

Caulfield free tips & form

Race 1. (12:15) QMS Media Plate (1400m)

#1 – Khulaasa @ $4.40 – BET NOW

Lindsay Park lines up the three-year-old filly which is only a one-race winner but she has been taking on some tough types of late.

She finished third behind Wild Planet last time out and prior to that finished in behind the likes of Thrillster and Sunlight.

That’s strong form for this and punters are getting value for their dollar at the current odds.

Race 2. (12:50) Gothic Stakes (1400m)

#4 – Ranier @ $2.60 – BET NOW

It has been tough for punters of Ranier this season, with the three-year-old colt finishing second on three occasions and third at the other. The son of Lonhro was especially unlucky last time out behind Wild Planet and he could turn the tables here.

Hugh Bowman was unable to get him into clear running room and we firmly believe it’s only a matter of time before he breaks through.

He has drawn to get every chance and despite this being a tough field, he’s got plenty of good attributes.

Race 3. (13:25) Caulfield Sprint (1000m)

#6 – Eduardo @ $3.40 – BET NOW

Eduardo was an impressive winner at his first two starts before running quality second placings behind Spending to Win and I Am Excited.

The lightly-tried five-year-old doesn’t have a major stable behind him, but he’s got plenty of ability and only 53kg on his back.

$3.40 is about as short as we would suggest taking but his price should stay around that quote.

Race 5. (14:35) Ethereal Stakes (2000m)

#6 – Verry Elleegant @ $2.50 – BET NOW

The Kiwi runner didn’t have much luck first-up in Australia but she’s a classy type and brings good form into this.

Now trained by Darren Weir, the filly by Zed finished third behind Amphitrite, which subsequently took out the Thousand Guineas last week. That form is good for this and with some luck in running, she should be going close.

Punters have come for her after opening at $3.20 and that’s a good sign.

Race 6. (15:10) Ladbrokes Classic (2000m)

#1 – Thinkin’ Big @ $3.80 – BET NOW

Sydney age-group form tends to stack up better than Melbourne age-group form and Thinkin’ Big has all the attributes to win this.

The well-bred son of High Chaparral finished third in the Spring Champion Stakes last start but was forced to travel wide on a hot tempo up front. That didn’t suit him at all and despite drawing wide here again, he could get some cover.

He’s a rangy type which deserves respect here.

Race 7. (15:50) Coogny Cup (2000m)

#7 – Best of Days @ $3.20 – BET NOW

James Cummings lines up the imported runner which ran second behind Furrion last time out at Caulfield. That run was a good preparation hit-out for this race and dropping down to 54.5kg with James McDonald in the saddle helps.

He’s only a three-time winner, which is the concern but he’s still adjusting to life in Australia and we’re confident he’ll produce a nice effort here.

Randwick free tips and form

Race 1. (12:30) Kirkham Plate (1000m)

#1 – Covert Ops @ $2.75 – BET NOW

Has the experience of a race-day start and is the only runner in the field to have that. The Gerald Ryan-trained colt finished second on debut in the Breeders’ Plate and the race was run in a slick time.

Running quicker than the fillies’ race on the same day, the colts went quickly and Covert Ops was only narrowly run down after running a little wayward in the straight.

$2.75 seems fair here.

Race 2. (13:05) Daily Press BM74 (1600m)

#10 – Ulusaba @ $2.90 – BET NOW

The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding has matured nicely this preparation after scoring a good win at Wyong last start by 3.5 lengths.

The son of Exceed And Excel has handled rain-affected tracks well with two starts for a win and a placing. That bodes well for this heavy track and carrying 55kg with good natural pace is a bonus.

Was scratched from an easier race during the week which is a good sign.

Race 3. (13:40) Highway Handicap (1100m)

#7 – Burning Crown @ $2.10 – BET NOW

The unbeaten Burning Crown looks to have a fair amount of ability and if he can handle the wet track, he should be winning this.

Sue Grills lines up the three-year-old son of Helmut which scored by six lengths on debut before backing that up with a 2.3-length win at Scone.

53.5kg on the back and the money has come thick and fast for the talented type

Race 4. (14:15) Tattersalls Club Handicap (2400m)

#4 – High Bridge @ $2.05 – BET NOW

Has had a freshen up after running fourth in the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap and he owns some serious class.

Trained by Chris Waller, the European import got too far back last start but his two wins prior were both quality outings and if he handles the wet, he handles this field.

He does own two wins on a soft track and that’s enough to back him with confidence.

Race 8. (16:55) ClubNSW BM94 (1200m)

#2 – Firsthand @ $7 – BET NOW

Yet to race on a heavy track but he is unbeaten from two starts on a slow-rated track and that’s good form coming into this

The Hawkes-trained runner finished fourth when fresh last start at Randwick and although he hasn’t shown his best form for some time now, this is an ideal chance to return a dividend.

$7 is a good value price for each way punters.
