October 6, 2017 – Friday Horse Racing Tips For Moonee Valley

There are no group one races on the card this Friday night at Moonee Valley, but there are still eight quality races to bet on.

Moonee Valley is one of the most exciting and electric atmospheres in Australian racing and every horse racing punter loves a Friday night bet on the horses.

It’s a nice lead-in to the group racing at Flemington and Randwick this weekend and we have good value tips ready to go.

Moonee Valley free tips & form

Race 1. (18:30) Simpson Construction Maiden Plate (1200m)

#2 – Choisborder @ $5.50 – BET NOW

Darren Weir trains this three-year-old colt which has placed in both starts so far and has looked above average.

The son of Choisir ran second on debut at Seymour behind The Major before running within a neck of the winner second-up at Ararat.

That run indicated that he wanted more ground and he gets it here with the rise to 1200m. That should suit him perfectly and he’s drawn to get a run close to the pace and kick strongly in the weight.

Most of the money has come for Seized at $2.90, but the value is with this consistent type which looks ready to score his maiden win.

Race 2. (19:00) TSOLS Tips Handicap (2500m)

#2 – Chequered Flag @ $3.60 – BET NOW

Another Darren Weir-trained runner, Chequered Flag is as consistent as they come and he will give punters a good sight.

He’s a former New Zealand runner which has been tried over hurdles this preparation and with good success. He won his maiden hurdle by 10 lengths in July and in between hurdles starts he has won and placed on the flat.

That’s a great sign from this flexible type which will love running over this distance and the tight Moonee Valley track won’t be a concern as it allows them to swoop late.

He gets a 1.5kg claim from Ben Allen, taking him down to 57kg and the $3.60 is a good price in a field where there are no last start winners.

Race 4. (20:00) Ascend Sales Trophies Handicap (1000m)

#11– Seven Year Reward @ $1.80 – BET NOW

We would suggest backing this runner as soon as possible as his odds only continue to shorten.

The Greg Eurell-trained gelding has had only one start for one win, but that was an impressive seven-length romp at Geelong and the time was impressive.

He ran 57.33 for the 1000m and that came on a slow surface. That’s an incredible time considering the track and the weight he had to carry, so it’s no wonder the money has come for him.

Crossing to the front from barrier 13 could see him planted wide and that’s the only concern, but senior rider Dwayne Dunn takes over and he knows how to ride this track.

He has been backed in from $2.05 to $1.80 in short time and expect those odds to shorten up to around $1.60 come start time.

Race 5. (20:30) Schweppes Handicap (1250m)

#5 – Miss Vista @ $4 – BET NOW

Miss Vista is a pure speedster which has winning form at Moonee Valley.

The uniquely-marked mare was ridden off the pace in its recent starts, but she would be better suited going forward and running them into the ground.

She has three wins over this distance which reads well and she always runs well first-up after a freshen up. She has won two of her three starts when fresh and she should be ready to fire.

Linda Meech reunites with the five-year-old and she won aboard the mare when she defeated Grey Street at Caulfield earlier this year.

Race 7. (21:30) Grosvenor Engineering Group Handicap (1200m)

#4 – Popovich @ $5 – BET NOW

Punters need to take Popovich on trust value, but he could surprise a few here.

The Robert Smerdon-trained runner hasn’t won since February 2016 and his three runs since have been poor.

He has beaten only four horses home in those three starts, but he has been given a 10-month break since last racing and he might recovered from whatever it was hindering his performance.

The New Zealand-bred looked the goods when winning back-to-back races to start its career and the betting suggests he could be back to his best.

He opened at $6.50 and has quickly firmed into $5. That’s a significant move and it could drop further.

The $2 to place is another nice betting option.

Race 8. (22:00) Chandler MacLeod Handicap (1000m)

#4 – Love Days @ $3.60 – BET NOW

The scratching of Open House has made this Love Day’s race to lose in our opinion.

The five-year-old is returning to the track having not raced since January where she ran third behind Boogie Woogie Man and she should have strengthened up nicely with the break.

She has form in behind Heatherley at Flemington where she was disappointing, but connections thought plenty of her and dropping back to this grade is going to be a big help.

She has won and placed from three fresh up starts and she runs her best races at Flemington. That bodes well for this Friday night and she’s a good bet to close the card.
