Port Macquarie racing tips

Race 1. (13:50) Tacking Point Tavern Maiden (1500m)

#1 – Dwayne @ $1.85

Nathan Doyle lines up Dwayne, who is getting close to posting a maiden win after five placings from eight starts.

The four-year-old son of So You Think ran well for second at Wyong last start, which is the best form guide for this maiden race.

Back him to score an overdue win.

Stake: 2.5 Units

Race 2. (14:25) Char Bar Catering Maiden (1200m)

#4 – Calypso Rocket @ $1.55

Taking $1.55 for a maiden runner isn’t easy, but Calypso Rocket is going for an easy kill after running two big races against stronger opposition.

The three-year-old son of Doubtland ran second on debut at Eagle Farm before finishing just 1.9 lengths behind the talented Performance at Randwick.

He should put up a few lengths on this field to exit maidens.

Stake: 4 Units

Race 3. (15:05) Brookvale Union Maiden (1000m)

#1 – Blue Suede Hooves @ $3.00

Kim Waugh lines up Blue Suede Hooves, who owns two placings from six starts, which came at his last two starts.

The four-year-old son of Blue Point ran third at Newcastle before running second at Gosford, and he has been primed with a trial win at Wyong.

Getting the inside draw is ideal, so he could resume with a win.

Stake: 2 Units

Race 4. (15:45) Carlton Dry C1 (1500m)

#3 – Trounce @ $2.80

Trounce looked good when winning at Taree two starts back before placing last time out.

The Kris Lees-trained mare shouldn’t take long to rise through the grades, and we like the way she ran through the line last start.

Natural improvement is enough to see her beat this small field.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 5. (16:20) De Bortoli Wines BM58 (1000m)

#3 – Better Late @ $1.85

We expect the odds for Better Late to firm on race day, so punters should take the $1.85.

The three-year-old colt by Maurice made a good impression on debut when winning by 2.3 lengths at Scone, and he would have strengthened nicely following the spell.

Ashley Morgan rides, so include him in horse racing multis.

Stake: 3 Units

Race 6. (16:55) Tab BM66 (1500m)

#2 – Tact @ $5.50

Punters get each-way odds for Tact in what is an even betting field, and he has a good chance of improving his form.

He hasn’t been too far away in two runs this campaign, and changing stables to Jason Deamer could see his form improve.

He should land in a good spot and give punters a good sight.

Stake: 1 Unit

Race 7. (17:30) John Oxley Motors BM58 (1200m)

#4 – Aye Aye Skipper @ $5.50

Looking to end a run of fifths is Aye Aye Skipper, who gets a good chance to get back to winning form.

The five-year-old son of Merchant Navy owns three wins and four placings from 27 starts, including two wins over the distance.

After opening at $8, money has come for him, which is a good sign.

Stake: 1 Unit
