The Q22 Form Guide & Tips

1. Zaaki (Best Bet – $1.50) Bet @ Sportsbet

Zaaki could be one of the best middle-distance thoroughbreds in Australia and the import showed that last time out.

The six-year-old scored by seven lengths at Group 1 level and it’s one of the easier top-level winning performances we have seen in some time.

Rising in distance holds no fears and although $1.50 is short, you’d be mad to leave off your ticket.

2. Homesman ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet

A quality type on his day and he proved that when winning three back at Flemington. He had no luck two back before running third behind Reloaded last start.

It’s not the worst form for this contest and punters get value odds. A first-four player.

3. Mirage Dancer ($67) Bet @ Sportsbet

Not finding his best form this season and we can’t see him finishing in the money. The inside draw is the only positive we can find.

4. Spirit Ridge (Best Roughie – $16) Bet @ Sportsbet

Rising in grade but that was a tough win at Eagle Farm last start and he’s capable of going back-to-back.

The Mark Newnham-trained son of Natheniel drops in distance, but that shouldn’t pose too many problems for this versatile type.

$16 is worth taking.

5. Quick Thinker ($71) Bet @ Sportsbet

A Derby winner that got back to his best when winning two back. However, his run at Eagle Farm was poor and we don’t think he’ll recover in time.

Better suited over much longer distances and he could struggle to pick up his feet over 2200m.

6. Warning ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet

Fired a warning shot when scoring at Doomben at a distance short of his best. The Victorian Derby winner is explosive at his best and rising in distance is ideal.

If they go quickly up front, he could settle off the pace and strike late. The betting drift from $11 to $14 isn’t ideal, but he enters calculations.

7. Brandenburgh ($19) Bet @ Sportsbet

A winner two back and he battled strongly when third behind Zaaki. However, he was 9.3 lengths from the winner and we can’t see him bridging the gap.

A placing looks his best chance, but he would need to find a couple of lengths.

8. Le Don De Vie ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet

Another recent winner when scoring at Warrnambool, but he didn’t handle the rise in class at Eagle Farm.

Conditions would need to be ideal for the five-year-old to have any chance of winning, but we don’t see it happening.

9. Reloaded ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

Punters get juicy odds for a confident winner of his last two. The Waller-trained son of Snitzel scored at Doomben before holding off a good field on this track.

He is rising in class for this contest, but punters get $41 and we wouldn’t be leaving him out. He could cause another upset with Hugh Bowman in the saddle.

10. Hang Man ($71) Bet @ Sportsbet

Hang Man has mixed his form throughout the season, which included back-to-back wins. However, he has yet to go well at this level and the odds speak for itself.

Barrier three is a positive, but we feel comfortable leaving him out of our selections.

11. Paths of Glory ($34) Bet @ Sportsbet

Not a bad type on its day and it got the better of Zaaki when they last met at Randwick. There was nothing wrong with that run and his subsequent efforts have been solid.

Punters get drifting odds and he could be worth a place bet if the odds continue to move.

12. The Candy Man ($67) Bet @ Sportsbet

An owner of four wins from seven starts at Eagle Farm, but his best form has deserted him this preparation.

Unbeaten from two starts at the distance but take on trust.

13. Nettoyer ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet

An enigmatic type that seemingly just loves racing in the Doncaster Mile. Form elsewhere has been suspect and $21 is far too short for our liking.

14. Toffee Tongue (Best Each Way – $11) Bet @ Sportsbet

Likely to be in the mix after finishing second behind Zaaki last start. The four-year-old mare chased hard and although closing the gap won’t be easy, she’s capable of an upset.

She is certainly capable of beating the rest of the field, so punters shouldn’t overlook her place odds of $2.50.

16. Cellarmaid ($151) Bet @ Sportsbet

Not racing her best this season and this should be too tough for her.
