Queensland Oaks Form Guide & Tips
—
1. Barb Raider (Best Each Way – $6.50) Bet @ Neds
We loved the fight shown by Barb Raider to win last start and that form can’t be overlooked in the Oaks.
She is a tough filly and punters get odds worth snapping up.
2. Gypsy Goddess ($4.20) Bet @ Neds
She must be included in selections but she’s not our top pick. She finished second behind Dynasties last start and we expected better.
Barrier 22 makes it hard but she’s too good to leave out.
3. Glint of Hope (Best Roughie – $13) Bet @ Neds
Nice odds available for the Australasian Oaks winner, who saw off a challenge from Barb Raider in the straight.
That form has been well and truly franked and the $13 is too good to pass up. Punters should be expecting a top effort.
4. Biscayne Bay ($23) Bet @ Neds
The talent is there but she’s only a two-time winner and we needed to see more from her last time out at Eagle Farm.
6. Honeycreeper ($14) Bet @ Neds
Punters can’t rule out a James Cummings-trained runner and she wasn’t far behind them in the Australian Oaks last start.
That form should stack up nicely and she goes into our first four selections.
7. Gin Martini ($26) Bet @ Neds
If we could have 10 picks, she would be in the mix. She has upset claims, but she’s not quite on the same level as our other picks.
8. Festival Dancer ($91) Bet @ Neds
Her odds are drifting significantly after opening at $61 and that’s not a good sign. We couldn’t have her in selections.
9. Dynasties ($16) Bet @ Neds
She won at Gold Coast two back when beating Gypsy Goddess but she flopped in the heavy going at Rosehill.
James McDonald is a key booking but we can’t put her most recent run out of our minds.
10. Verona ($26) Bet @ Neds
Unlikely to run based on her having no assigned jockey. Scored a good win two back but she has lengths to make up on her last start.
11. Belle Savoir ($9) Bet @ Neds
Hit the line nicely behind Barb Raider last start and we think that’s the best form guide for this race.
She is an obvious trifecta selection and she only needs some luck from the wide barrier draw to figure in the finish.
12. Aravene (Best Bet – $5) Bet @ Neds
Our best bet after showing excellent form since. She won at Sandown by 1.5 lengths before winning at Rosehill by three lengths.
We loved the ease of her last-start win and we’re not surprised her opening odds have firmed from $7.50.
Take the odds available.
14. Smirk ($21) Bet @ Neds
It’s not usual to see a Chris Waller-trained runner drift in the market. Her last start run was solid for third and she could be the overlooked runner.
15. Teranga ($41) Bet @ Neds
Two wins from four starts but she takes on tougher opposition and she could struggle to show her best.
We wouldn’t be including her in our selections.
16. Le Villi ($19) Bet @ Neds
The daughter of Puccini showed good form early on in her career but her recent efforts have been only fair.
Barrier two helps but there is better value elsewhere.
17. Rosie Impact ($151) Bet @ Neds
The odds tell punters all they need to know. She shouldn’t go close.
18. Nom De Plume ($126) Bet @ Neds
Another runner at big odds and she’s unlikely to run well enough to win.
19. Cupid’s Kiss ($151) Bet @ Neds
Comes off a win but it was a low-graded race. Needs to lift to compete at Group 1 level.
20. Nyota ($81) Bet @ Neds
Shooting for three consecutive wins, but much like Cupid’s Kiss, they came against easier opposition.
21. Pioneer Lass ($201) Bet @ Neds
Big odds and she won’t be in the mix.
22. Chayse ‘N’ Tanya ($251) Bet @ Neds
Unlikely to run and it would need to improve to figure in the finish.
23. Savagal ($151) Bet @ Neds
Unlikely to run.
