Railway Stakes Form Guide & Tips

1. Valour Road ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet

Valour Road comes off three consecutive placings, but we’re unsure if he has the pace to beat this field.

Drawing barrier 17 doesn’t help his chances.

2. Massimo ($13) Bet @ Sportsbet

He is a four-time winner and his effort to score last time out was impressive. He goes into trifecta and first-four calculations with a repeat of that effort.

3. The Velvet King ($21) Bet @ Sportsbet

He has shown glimpses of top-level ability in the past, but he hasn’t been showing it of late. Nice odds available, but he just misses the cut.

4. Dance Music ($41) Bet @ Sportsbet

Never too far away from the winner but drawing wide isn’t ideal. She could struggle against this level of opposition.

5. Too Close the Sun ($26) Bet @ Sportsbet

A quality type on his day, including a win two back at Belmont. Doesn’t have the best form at Ascot, but he should settle handy and kick strongly.

6. Comfort Me ($23) Bet @ Sportsbet

Searching for three consecutive wins and we wouldn’t be completely ruling out his chances at the light weight.

He could sneak into first four calculations.

7. Dig Deep ($71) Bet @ Sportsbet

Big odds available for the five-time winner, who is likely to find this too tough. We can’t see him figuring in the finish.

8. Kaptain Kaos ($20) Bet @ Sportsbet

He owns seven wins from 13 starts and two of those have come at Ascot. He is a quality runner on his day and he deserves a big race win.

$20 is a fair price after opening at $15, so consider.

9. Kay Cee ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet

She showed excellent form to start her career but it has been slim pickings since. Not running well enough to worry about.

10. Kissonallfourcheeks (Best Each Way – $10) Bet @ Sportsbet

She is a classy mare who owns eight wins from 15 starts. Her effort to win at Ascot last start was excellent and punters should take the $10 available.

She gets the inside draw with 53kg on her back, which is tough to overlook.

11. Naughty by Nature ($81) Bet @ Sportsbet

Ended her last preparation with consecutive wins. Likely to improve with two runs under her belt, but she should find these too tough.

Expect big odds on race day.

12. Notorious One (Best Roughie – $14) Bet @ Sportsbet

Never runs a bad race and we can’t leave him out of selections. He ran second behind Western Empire last start, and although turning the tables could be tough, he has each-way claims.

$14 is well worth taking and the $3.60 to place is a good bet.

13. Platoon ($67) Bet @ Sportsbet

Always a tough runner to weigh up, but he’s struggling to find his best form. Running out of chances to impress now.

14. Son of Bacchus ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet

Nothing wrong with his form this preparation but we question if it’s Group 1-winning form. We don’t think it is, so he doesn’t enter our calculations.

15. Tellem We’re Coming ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet

Classy at best but his best form doesn’t come at Ascot. He owns only two wins from 13 starts on the track, and that’s tough form to recommend.

16. Western Empire (Best Bet – $1.70) Bet @ Sportsbet

The next star from the Williams stable. The four-year-old gelding owns six wins from 11 starts and five of them have come at Ascot.

His win in the W.A. Derby was special and we could be seeing him racing in Melbourne next year.

Punters get short odds, but they’re worth taking.

17. Media Baron ($151) Bet @ Sportsbet

Making up numbers as his form isn’t good enough.
