Railway Stakes 2019 Form Guide & Tips
Gatting (Best Bet – $10) Bet Now
Gatting runs over the odds here given his performance to win at Group 1 level at Flemington in September.
He was able to hold off Mystic Journey in the run to the line and that’s no easy feat. His subsequent runs haven’t been as good, but it’s tough to keep that level of racing up.
That was a nice effort for second last start and we’re confident he’ll be right in the mix.
Best of Days (Best Roughie – $10) Bet Now
Not exactly a roughie but he’s still paying double-figure odds and they’re worth taking.
The James Cummings-trained runner is a former import which has plenty of ability on his side, but just needs to lift a touch on recent racing.
His effort for fifth in the Cantala Stakes was at Group 1 level and that run is tough to ignore. It’s good form for this and we couldn’t leave him out of calculations.
Star Exhibit ($14) Bet Now
Star Exhibit was good enough to beat Gatting last start and because of that, we can’t rule him out of calculations.
He might be an eight-year-old but he still has plenty of speed left in his legs and he could go back-to-back.
Looks well-placed from the draw.
Archernar Star ($11) Bet Now
Yet to win from three starts this campaign but hasn’t been far off them. Has a second placing to its name two back and anything close to that could be good enough.
Drawing barrier 16 makes it tough but Damien Oliver rides, so consider.
Reykjavik ($11) Bet Now
Scored a popular win on Stakes Day at Flemington last start and there’s nothing wrong with that form.
It came on a good track so conditions should suit and he has good experience at Ascot. He has had 13 starts for one win and seven placings.
Tough to completely ignore and he has first-four chances.
The Velvet King ($5) Bet Now
Never runs a bad race and enters this with seven wins and five placings from only 14 starts.
The four-year-old is a nice type in the making and although beaten at short odds last start, he might have needed the run.
Gets in with only 53kg on his back and he should be considered as a major winning chance.
Tellem We’re Comin (Best Each Way – $4.80) Bet Now
Back-to-back wins coming into this race and they have come easily. His first win was by 2.8 lengths and he went better at Northam when scoring by three lengths last start.
The Williams-trained runner has won eight of his 17 starts and he could be a Group 1-winning type.
Gets a good chance to win at the highest level and it has been well-backed to win since markets opened.
Variation ($19) Bet Now
Twice-placed this campaign but winning this looks a little too tough for him.
Did run a nice second at Caulfield behind Streets of Avalon but that’s just a bit off where he needs to be to win at this level.
Mizlecki ($31) Bet Now
Hasn’t won for awhile now and that win is unlikely to come here.
Gets a good run from the draw and carries a light weight, but that’s where the positives stop.
Perfect Jewel ($16) Bet Now
That was a much better run for third last time out after showing little form for some time.
There is a real sense of positivity in the betting and that should tell punters that Perfect Jewel could run a good race.
Worth considering at the odds.
Regal Power ($8) Bet Now
Shorter in the betting than we expected but we have to respect the Williams/Pike combination.
The four-year-old has finished in the money in 10 of his 14 starts and the son of Pierro has a nice future.
Beaten in an easier race last start and that’s the worry. However, he usually performs better with some racing under his belt.
Chance in this.
Samizdat ($6) Bet Now
Scored a good win over Regal Power last start and there has been a solid betting push for the gelding.
He has won five of his eight starts and running with only 53kg is going to help his chances significantly.
Untapped ability so we would have it on our multiples ticket.
Two wins from three starts this time in but those have come in much easier grades than this.
Drawn wide in barrier 14 and he would need to produce a career-best performance to take this out.
Platoon ($34) Bet Now
In consistent form this campaign but we don’t think he’s a Group 1 winner in the making.
Could win a nice race later on.
Tamasa ($31) Bet Now
Has shown speed in the past and it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see him winning.
However, a much-improved effort would be needed.
