Randwick Guineas Form Guide & Tips
1. Castelvecchio (Best Bet – $6) Bet Now
The Richard Litt-trained runner was good enough to run second in the 2019 Cox Plate, so we’re giving him plenty of credit.
He was always going to need his first-up run at Rosehill and Randwick is a track where he’s yet to miss a placing. Drawing barrier 12 isn’t a worry as he gets back in the run and bookmakers are offering great each-way odds.
He’s the top pick in a tough race.
3. Microphone ($7) Bet Now
The Cummings-trained colt didn’t run up to his best last start but he might have been better with different tactics. He tried to lead throughout and we think he’s better when chasing.
He’ll likely have to chase after drawing barrier 14, and his win prior at Caulfield was a good form guide. Don’t drop him on one bad run.
4. Warning ($11) Bet Now
Warning made ground late last start and that was a good sign for the stayer. He won the Derby at Flemington last spring and despite that coming over 2500m, he can handle the shorter distances.
The gelding will improve with the run but it would be a good effort to win.
5. Shadow Hero ($4.60) Bet Now
Shadow Hero is another stayer on the rise and he looked good when running fifth at Rosehill last start. The three-race winner showed his best form when winning at Randwick in October, which came over a top field.
We would prefer to back him in something longer later this autumn, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see him right around the mark.
6. Brandenburg (Best Each Way – $8) Bet Now
The consistent colt scored a huge upset win last start and he’s worth backing. He has yet to run worse than third from eight career starts, so quality is on his side.
He’s a real battling type that should appreciate the rise from 1400m to the mile. Based on that, we’re putting him in selections at a fair price.
7. Prince Fawaz (Best Roughie – $41) Bet Now
Prince Fawaz showed nothing fresh up but that was to be expected. He might need more time but he’s classy at best, and he owns winning form on this track.
He’s a future stallion looking to pick up some more black type and he could be ready fire as a long-odds hope.
8. Reloaded ($9) Bet Now
The stable has a big opinion of this colt and he has been well backed to win. Trained by Chris Waller, the colt by Snitzel ran well for second behind Brandenburg last start, which is a good form guide.
He needs luck from barrier 13 but we wouldn’t be surprised to see him take out the Randwick Guineas.
9. Kubrick ($12) Bet Now
Kubrick has a big win on this track but we wanted to see a better effort last start. He’s an enigmatic runner that is tough to trust.
For that reason, we’re leaving him out of selections. His odds are drifting, so punters aren’t confident either.
10. Pancho ($11) Bet Now
Pancho is a nice type in the making and he could give his opposition something to think about. The Waller-trained runner is a three-time winner that held his ground well last start.
$11 is a good price for value punters and he’s a first-four hope.
11. Conqueror ($15) Bet Now
The colt went to Ellerslie in New Zealand last start and ran second behind Probabeel. That’s Group 1 form and although he was beaten, it’s a good form guide.
He’s a very well-bred colt by Fastnet Rock and he could throw his hat into the ring. Worth considering at the odds.
12. The Holy One ($41) Bet Now
He would have to improve on his most recent effort to win. In-form jockey Michael Walker rides, but he is likely to struggle.
13. Fortress Command ($51) Bet Now
Drifting in the betting and that comes as no surprise. He finished 5.6 lengths behind a similar field last start and he shouldn’t be turning the tables.
14. Sirmaze ($91) Bet Now
Likely to start at triple-figure odds and it won’t be in the finish.
