Race 1. (11:25) ATC Heritage Volunteers Handicap (1200m)
#2 – Funstar @ 1.50 – Bet Now
Funstar will start as a very short favourite but that’s warranted after a brilliant debut win.
Chris Waller lines up the relation to Youngstar, which started her career in similar fashion. The well-bred daughter of Adelaide scored by 3.3 lengths at Canterbury and she did it with consummate ease.
There’s an exciting career ahead of Funstar and the aptly-named filly could and should remain unbeaten in the first.
Race 2. (12:00) TAB Highway Handicap (1200m)
#5 – Irish Songs @ $3.20 – Bet Now
Three-year-old gelding Irish Songs looks well-placed here after consecutive third placings this campaign. The Kurt Goldman-trained gelding has finished within a length in both starts and meets an even field here.
He was a two-time winner from four starts last preparation and although he’s yet to win a Highway race, he’s overdue and paying nice enough odds in this.
Race 3. (12:35) Schweppes BM78 (2000m)
#1 – Wu Gok @ $7 – Bet Now
Chris Waller lines up the experienced runner which has already won twice this campaign and could win again at each-way odds.
The five-year-old is always better with fitness under the belt and with nine runs in his legs this campaign, he shouldn’t be too far away from them here.
Drawn well enough and this looks a very even field on paper.
Race 4. (13:10) Moet/Chandon Winter Dash (1200m)
#2 – Passage of Time @ $4.40 – Bet Now
The Joe Pride-trained five-year-old was impressive when beating Asterius last week and he’s capable of winning again.
That was his third win from his last four starts and Pride has the son of Northern Meteor running along nicely.
He has a wet-track specialist in Jungle Edge to get past here but he has the youth on his side and that could be enough here.
Race 5. (13:50) Hyland EOFY Sale BM78 (1400m)
#8 – Charretera @ $3.80 – Bet Now
A light weight and an inside draw are two positives in favour of Charretera. The Snowden-trained three-year-old is coming off consecutive third placings following his win at Randwick.
That win was a quality effort from the son of Epaulette and it suggested he had many more wins in store.
His turn-of-foot is going to be more abundant with only 54.5kg on his back and that makes him a top player in this.
Race 6. (14:30) Moet/Chandon Grand Day BM78 (1200m)
#2 – Terminology @ $2.80 – Bet Now
The Magic Millions Maiden winner returned to winning form when scoring at Randwick last start and that should hold nicely.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained runner has two wins and four placings from 10 starts, which is a nice record at this point of her career.
Drawing wide is a bit of a sticky point but she possesses good barrier speed and she should be right in the thick of the action.
Race 7. (15:10) Moet/Chandon Grand Vintage BM78 (1600m)
#15 – This Is So @ $9 – Bet Now
Could be a nice up-and-coming type which has won his last two starts. The Anthony Cummings-trained four-year-old has been patiently handled to date and could continue his rise through the grades.
His most recent run came at Randwick where he carried 56kg to victory and although he’s facing a tough ask here, dropping in weight to 53.5kg brings him right into contention.
$9 is a price worth taking.
Race 8. (15:50) Moet/Chandon Rose Sprint BM78 (1200m)
#4 – Southern Lad @ $4.60 – Bet Now
There was nothing wrong with the run from Southern Lad last start and we’re confident of another good effort.
The John O’Shea-trained gelding finished second behind Simply Optimistic and that could be a good form guide for the winter.
He just didn’t get the best run in the straight in the worst part of the ground and that hindered his chances. He’s better suited here and should provide some value.
Race 9. (16:25) TAB BM78 (1000m)
#13 – Spiritual Pursuit @ $2.25 – Bet Now
Beaten favourite last start when paying the same odds here, but she didn’t lose many admirers with that effort.
She was caught wide early and was made to do plenty of work. She battled on well for second behind a nice type in Wagner and she’s drawn a dream in this.
Barrier two could see her wanting to get off the rail in the straight but she might have pinched a big lead by the time she swing for home.
$2.25 is likely to firm into an odds-on quote.
