Robert Sangster Stakes Form Guide & Tips
1. Flit ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet
Flit has raced against the top types in Australia throughout her career but she would be better with a slightly longer trip.
Respect the stable and the jockey, but jumping from barrier 16 could be too much of an ask.
2. Mizzy ($7) Bet @ Sportsbet
Mizzy brings inconsistent form from Sydney, but she is dangerous at her best. Her back-to-back second placings were top class, so we’re not surprised by the odds available.
$7 is a touch short for our liking, but she enters first-four calculations.
3. Subpoenaed ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet
The Chris Waller-trained sprinter will be hitting the line nicely, but she might have too much work to do in the straight.
She often gets back in the run and relies on luck. That won’t be ideal against the big field and she could get strung up behind runners.
4. Pretty Brazen ($31) Bet @ Sportsbet
Best form comes at Flemington and that was a poor effort last time out. Prefer to wait until she gets back to headquarters.
5. Lyre (Best Roughie – $14) Bet @ Sportsbet
Lyre has been an expensive bet for punters, but after three consecutive second placings, she looks ready to win.
The Freedman-trained mare will need luck from barrier 17, but she’s versatile and capable of sitting behind the speed and grinding away.
You wouldn’t want to leave her off your ticket.
6. Brooklyn Hustle ($11) Bet @ Sportsbet
The ability is there with Brooklyn Hustle, but she is having a hard time of recapturing it.
She is a touch too short in the betting and we would have entertained her odds at $25. $11 is too low for value punters.
7. Prophet’s Thumb ($27) Bet @ Sportsbet
She scored an overdue win two starts back, but has been well-handled since. Drawing barrier two is ideal and she should settle closer to the pace.
However, she would need to find a few lengths to win at Group 1 level.
8. Sisstar ($10) Bet @ Sportsbet
Searching for her fourth consecutive win after running them into the ground and Caulfield last time out.
The four-year-old is capable of winning at having William Pike in saddle could be enough to swing the advantage in her favour.
She goes into calculations.
9. Bam’s On Fire ($35) Bet @ Sportsbet
Not running well enough and connections should start looking for something a touch easier than Group 1 level.
10. Humma Humma ($14) Bet @ Sportsbet
Indicating that she isn’t too far off a win. She might have lost a half-length this season, but she is a two-time winner at Morphettville.
Punters should respect her and the double-figure odds available.
11. Rubisaki ($16) Bet @ Sportsbet
Rubisaki looked like a potential champion but her form has tapered off considerably.
There has been no reason to get excited at her last three starts, so until she shows something better, we can’t have her on our ticket.
12. Li’l Kontra ($51) Bet @ Sportsbet
A speedy type that scored at Caulfield last star. She loves the track but we question her ability to beat big fields.
They’ll be flashing at her late and the little mare might succumb to the pressure.
13. Paul’s Regret ($34) Bet @ Sportsbet
Paul’s Regret opened her campaign with consecutive wins before facing some tough fields in Melbourne.
We don’t think she will win the Robert Sangster Stakes, but $34 is too good to completely pass up. Include her in first-four picks.
15. Instant Celebrity (Best Bet – $6) Bet @ Sportsbet
It was a nice return to racing when finishing fourth behind Muntaseera last time out and she could turn the tables.
The four-time winner is classy at best and with that run under her belt, she should be awfully tough to hold out.
Punters get value odds at $6 and we expect that quote to shorten on race day.
16. Muntaseera (Best Each Way – $10) Bet @ Sportsbet
Defeated a similar field at Morphettville last start and there is no reason why she couldn’t double down on that effort.
Barrier 14 won’t help but her turn-of-foot always puts her in contention of winning, so the value odds are there.
17. Night Raid ($17) Bet @ Sportsbet
Got back to winning form at Morphettville and she will appreciate the track experience.
The three-year-old is capable on her day and this distance is ideal, so we wouldn’t be surprised if she figured in the first four.
