Rockhampton horse racing tips & form
Race 1. (15:12) Maiden Plate (1300m)
#9 – Love’s Best Hope – Bet Now
It is taking a while for Love’s Best Hope to win a race but she won’t get a better chance than this.
The four-year-old has had 14 starts for two placings, and those three starts back and last time out at Rockhampton.
A good ride will be needed from barrier 14 but a capable jockey rides and she should be paying value each-way odds.
Race 2. (15:47) Open Handicap (1050m)
#2 – Mr Phenomenal – Bet Now
The five-year-old is a professional winner of nine of 18 starts and he could make a winning start to this campaign.
He’s a classy type that rattled off five consecutive wins to end last campaign, including 3.5-length win in May.
His last couple of wins came in this grade and two of his wins have come over this distance, so running the 1050m isn’t a worry.
We’re not expecting big odds from bookies.
Race 3. (16:22) BM69 Handicap (1600m)
#3 – Howick – Bet Now
Howick has hit top gear this season after posting two wins from her last three starts.
The Adrian Coome-trained mare owns five wins from 23 starts, and her one-length win on this track last start was a good form guide.
Jockey Chris Whiteley has stuck with her since she resumed and she’s going to get every chance in the run once again.
It’s a handy field so punters should get value odds.
Race 4. (16:57) Rating 65 Handicap (1200m)
#1 – Shenron – Bet Now
Shenron is firing on all cylinders after posting three consecutive wins at Rockhampton and Mackay.
The four-year-old gelding has done plenty of racing throughout his career, with 26 starts for five wins and nine placings.
His last three wins have all come at upset odds, but punters shouldn’t expect to get a double-figure price this time around.
He should be one of the runners to beat.
Race 5. (17:32) 3YO Handicap (1400m)
#1 – Three Stripes – Bet Now
Three Stripes got the job done nicely two weeks back when scoring by a length at Rockhampton.
The three-year-old colt made it two wins and three second placings from five starts, so it’s a good start to his career.
There is more depth to this field, and that’s a worry. However, he’s the top weight for a reason and punters should be confident in his chances.
Race 6. (18:08) C2 Plate (1400m)
#9 – Strawberry Blonde – Bet Now
Strawberry Blonde has run well since returning from a spell, and she could improve enough to take this out.
The four-year-old was good enough to score consecutive wins when last in work, and she has all the makings of a winner this season.
She always improves with racing under her belt and seeing Ryan Wiggins in the saddle only boosts confidence levels.
Race 7. (18:40) BM55 Handicap (1050m)
#1 – Absolute Bonza – Bet Now
The five-year-old has been in work for some time now but why not keep running?
He has won five times already this campaign, including a 4.3-length win two starts back at Gladstone.
Most of his wins have come at much easier levels but he held his ground nicely at Mackay last start, so stick with him.
Punters should get value odds for the top weight.
